Gray Fuel Lines

After reading a numbers of threads related to the Gray Fuel Line issue, no one mentions a good replacement hose. Does anyone have a suggestion for what hose to use in replacing the stock gray hose?

Cool! Will they have some sort of clamp that will work as well?

Also, do I need to lightly oil the filter after cleaning?

I just did this and, to make your life MUCH easier, buy 5/16" fuel line for the lines that are labeled 8mm, and 1/4" line for the 6mm lines. A lot of guys on here say to put 1/4 on both, but that makes the fuel line the bottle neck in the system, and also makes it a complete PITA to put them on the 8mm fittings (and possibly breaking the plastic ones).

If your'e going to replace the little hoses, I would think you might be able to get by using tiny wire ties to hold them on. Someone else should give a second opinion on that.

Thanks! I have a bunch, but think I will look for some better quality ones for this app.

Like they said. Just go get some automotive fuel line in those sizes and put them on. Do 1 at a time. I got brand new hose clamps that were stainless. Only 1 line I couldn't get to. It may be next but I have to take off the exhaust pipe first. I'm scared to do that.

Definitely use stainless steel clamps and not the regular ones or they will rust and be a major problem.

On his model, they are all 1/4" (6mm).

It is really differant on skis from what I have seen, but on boats you always replace them with marine hose, when I replace mine on my 2000 gtx I am replacing them with marine fuel hose.

It really doesn't matter if it is marine or not. Marine is just more expensive. What ever you want to do. Just don't use that junk that it came with.

I have a 94 and 95 xp. Any idea as to how much fuel line I need?

I think I read somewhere that 20-25 feet is enough. I think I bought somewhere between that amount and replaced all but one vent line. Sounds like a lot but it gets used up quickly.

Don't know about the earlier model xps, but my '97 xp took 15' of 1/4" and 5' of 5/16". I replaced everything. Even the accelerator pump lines and the pulse line between the carbs.

I do not understand why jetski's do not need to meet uscg approval but in boats you must use usgc aprroved hose, thats why I brought that up, marine hose will way out last automotive hose. I am going to replace all my hoses with uscg approved hoses.

To each his own. If that is what you want to do. No big deal. I like the automotive cause it is cheap and readily available. I don't know why jet ski's don't to meet uscg approval? Some things on mine due but, that may just be a state thing. I probably need to replace the vent hoses. I did not change the hose between the carbs. I can't get to it.

JinSC....did you replace the "check valve" inside those xcelleroator lines?

I did my '94 SPX with auto lines 1.45$ a Foot. 1/4 fit perfect, Got 20 feet and used 18ish. Got all stainless clamps but cost me $37.00 needed 19 of them.(Used magnet to test stainless.) For the oil lines I went to the lawn mower store and got some thick gas/oil/ethanol proof lines they use on high end weedwackers/ or even racing go-peds, only need maybe a foot but I got 3' for about 5$. I also replaced all the clear hoses with new ones just to make sure water was flowing right. I know they get yellowish brown after a few years but all the hose were about 5$. Spend the money and not have to worry later down the road.

Has anyone put a inline filter into the fuel feed line just before the carb? That way it could clog up instead of the one inside of your carberator, and would be a much quicker fix. Does anyone know what the micron rating is on the internal filter in the carb? Something like this I think would work great, I just don't want it to bottleneck the fuel feed system and cause issues.

Actually, I did not replace the accelerator lines. It was the short individual return lines coming from each carb that "T" together that I mistakenly spoke of. What I did with the accelerator lines was, I blew through them with compressed air and checked the functionality of the check valve. It all seemed to be clean and function properly so, I let them be. These tiny lines where grey, but they did not look like they had the clear inner liner like the other grey fuel lines did. Do I need to replace these?
