Good news. Decided to get a ride in on Lake Erie before it's ice. It was absolutely perfect out. In fact to perfect. It was like glass.

Bad news. I was off yesterday and after my ride I was told my leave is revoked due to the Gov shutdown. So not only MUST I work for free right now. My vacation to Cozumel is off. I rarely buy the travel insurance, but for some reason I did this time. So I will get my 3000 grand back.

So I offer to take my vacation with no pay. I'm told I can do so but will be furloughed upon my return. Which means I can not return to work until the Gov stops the shutdown and I will get no pay not back pay.

Soooo. Looks look I will work for free and miss my vacation.

Good times,,,

Oh well. Little I can do about it. I have a good job that pays well under normal circumstances.

things will be back to normal soon enough, smart move on the travel insurance.

Sorry that employees are the one's getting chit on while Congress still gets paid :(

not to mock the shutdown, but I got a kick out of the news item where it said veterans "Storm" the lincoln memorial, then they show the tape and its a bunch of old guys in wheelchairs... The story itself was interesting, but it wasn't quite a "Storming", when everybody visiting is 90+ :) I think its kind of funny that due to the shutdown they still have they money to put up barricades and put police there, but not enough money to just put up no barricades at all, kind of weird.

Curiously, from A fed employee's standpoint, are you pissed off at any particular group in congress, or congress as a whole.

This is my third Gov hut down for me.

I understand the reasons behind it, but it is frustrating.

The one thing that does bother me is, I have a hard time with the fact that the House and Senate vote in things that does NOT affect them. They have heinie health care, pay and retirement.

If they had to consider themselves within what they were voting on things would be different.

I had a coworker that was on ALV (leave) yesterday. He was told he MUST return to the office by close of business yesterday. While traveling back they contacted him and told him that he can now come back as late as Saturday but will not be paid during his leave time. He decided to leave his family and return to work to limit his loss of pay. When he got to the office this morning he was told he is not on indefinite furlough and they will notify him as to when he can return to work...

Now that is some big time BS,,,,

I feel very bad for him. No pay no nothing,,,,

Sorry about that. But... I'm sure they will get it all worked out shortly. (as far as getting paid) Will they comp the vacation after?

Officially the answer is no.

That said, my supervisor called me and told me to put together a packet with all the details, cost, how long planned, all details ect ect and he would send it to the director to see if I could go.

It would be without pay but I could care less about the pay. I'd rather have the vacation.

But mine starts on the 5th so I doubt it can make it through the chain in time.

Several others were furloughed as they were already on leave or on sick leave and even workers comp. that part I think is very unfair.

Glad I have a job I guess. I'm not worried about the pay. I have plenty to live on for some time. I just feel bad for others at this point.
