I have some questions regarding issues with my 1997 Speedster. Can they be answered by Forum members here, or do I need to join the Premium membership? They can be categorized as; cosmetic, electrical, and mechanical.
Cosmetic. It has sat for 4 years under a cover here in AZ whilst I was overseas. Despite being under a cover, the sun has permeated the cover and caused the seat covers to crack and also the gell coat to crack on the topside of the boat. I have read the excellent postings on recovering seats and understand what is required for that issue, but can gell-coat cracks be repaired?

Electrical. My battery (new) goes flat within 24 hrs if I leave it connected. I have traced through the wiring under the console and can find nothing shorting out. Where else should I look?

Mechanical. My left-hand control lever has no tension and flops backwards. It does work otherwise i.e control the engine speed. I can not find a tension spring for the control cable. Where should I look?
My son did take the boat out while I was gone and managed to run over the ski rope and sucked it into the left hand jet. I have pulled it out, but suspect my seal is damaged. How difficult is it to replace the seal. I had both seals done by a local shop some years ago, but I am not willing to spend that amount again and would rather tackle it myself.

If these problems are too expensive to fix, I may consider donating the boat or parting it out. Before that, I'd appreciate some help on the above issues.

I've received much help without becoming a premium member, but I'm also a mechanic. If your son is old enough to use the boat, he's old enough to fix it - Especially if you're going overseas again. Otherwise post photos and ask for offers as is.

I'll let some of the other experts answer this one

The best way to troubleshoot electrical problems is to start pulling fuses and/or using an amp meter to figure out what is drawing. Another alternative is to install a battery switch or disconnect the battery wire after every use (cheapest alternative :) ).

Mechanical. My left-hand control lever has no tension and flops backwards. It does work otherwise i.e control the engine speed. I can not find a tension spring for the control cable. Where should I look?
You need to pull your control assembly out and tighten up the center phillips headed bolt to add tension. You really need to get a shop manual which is available as a premium member or using some googlefu to find your answer.

Once you have the shop manual, you can easily do it yourself and if you get stuck, someone will always be able to help you out.
