I just picked up my '06 Sportster SCIC 215hp last week. According to local dealers, they've never had her in for service, and no warranty work was ever done. They wanted $250 to get her ready, saying it was changing the plugs and oil..............I know I can do that myself for a heck of a lot less.

What spark plugs should I get?? What oil am I supposed to run?? What octane, I run 93 in my cars tuned engine? Can I get a "professional" fuel system cleaning without having to go to the dealer, like you get for around $80 at Mobil1/Valvoline Oil Change??

I spoke to the mechanic about the supercharger washers, and he said the job was around $500, but if I didn't do alot of wake jumping, the washers should be fine.

Sure... you can save a bunch of $$$ by doing your own work. You have to figure... most dealers are charging $65 to $85 an hour, so half of that $250 is labor.

I won't touch the oil thing... everyone has their own opinion.

As far as the washers... if they have never been done... DON'T CHANCE IT!!!!! a busted washer will send broken supercharger parts into the engine, and can cause a catastrophic failure. (beyond a rebuild) Think about doing it yourself, and save big. The Riva tool steel washers are about $100.

Good luck

Pulled the plugs today, they seemed in good shape. No corrosion or misfire/running too hot noted to the heads. There was a fine line of rust at the edge of the ceramic/thread almost unnoticeable. Pulled apart the air intake box/manifold, no filter??? Why such a big box?? Ordered an oil puller, will change the oil and coolant myself. Can't believe they want $175 - $200 for an OIL CHANGE!!! Found a mechanic who only works on jet skis and jet boats. He keeps the supercharger rebuild kits in stock. The 2 BRP guys I went to today have to order them. He's going to rebuild the supercharger and do a computer analysis for $450, $150 - $250 less than the BRP guys. Not just the washers, but the spline, clutch washers, gears, and ball bearings, everything but the casing and the impeller will be brand new. He was telling me how he took a speedster twin rotax, got rid of the superchargers, replaced with homemade turbos, and got a 90 mph boat. No thanks in that small of a package, but sounds twisted!!! Will be ready for a FL meet soon.......are there any planned or thought about????? :hurray:

Oh yeah......Barney's (local dealer with 3 sites) charges $89/hr labor for motorcycles, $89/hr labor for jet skis, and $150/hr labor for boats, though it's the same fracking motor as the jet ski. Almost sounds illegal, I dunno why someone would bring them a boat. Everyone else charged the same for skis and boats. Has anyone else ever heard of or seen this???

Plus, can you only get the oil, filter, and coolant at a BRP dealer? I was at West Marine today, and they had nothing.

My local dealer will tell you 1 price on the phone and stick it to ya when you pick it up! 400 something to change oil, plugs ? Told them bout themselves and they didn't even budge when I told them I wasn't coming back. Third time I have had problems!

I'm gonna be heading to the dealer soon to pick up the "mineral" oil, oil filter, and coolant. I'll be missing an arm and a leg when I get home.
