I use this when assembling the entire motor. Again skim coat like racer put it. I even use it on the case. Best sealant in the world

I would almost bet that is the same as the Threebond 1184, Honda bond and yamabond. Almost all the OEM's went to this for aluminum to aluminum on the newer engines. GM has their brand too.

The copper spray is more for high heat applications and laminated gaskets like 951 head gaskets.
As far as sealant on gaskets it all comes down to the application. A thin skim coat on gaskets like 1211 will ensure a perfect seal and will not have any effect on cooling, even the small holes on a 951 head gasket. You want it to just leave a sheen on the gasket. It shouldn't be thick enough to squeeze out. Also on carb gaskets 1211 makes them reusable as they come off perfectly intact.

In the end do what works for you and makes you comfortable with the repair.

Ok did some searching. Threebond sealants

1211 - RTV silicone sealant.
1184 - listed as a liquid gasket/gasket sealer/case sealer. Says it's an evolution of 1104 and 1194. Same as Yamabond and Hondabond. A semi drying synthetic rubber for sealing surfaces that may have uneven surfaces. It remains elastic and resistant to water oil and gas.

1194 - replaced by 1184
