Gas Gauge not working...

i have a 1999 gti and the gas gauge doesnt work...any idea what i can do to fix it? thanx.

have you checked your fuel baffle? you have a magnet attached to a float inside the baffle, if the magnet is still on the float and it travels up and down smoothly, PM me. I have a repair I do for $60.00

The problem is i'm new to this...how can i see the magnet...i looked at the fuel buffle but i dont see anything...let me know how can i get to that magnet and float...thanx..

Did you ever figure it out? I just bought a 99 gti and have the same problem. The gauge goes back and forth from E to F and then sometimes just sits on E.

if you pull the fuel baffle out of the gas tank, you can pop the small cover off the bottom to pull the float out and see if the magnet is still attached.

If the magnet is still attached you have blown a fusible link in the baffle. I repair these for $60.00 so its better than $180 for a new one. contact me on PM if interested.
