Ok, I have a mystery. To troubleshoot another issue I decided to turn my fuel selector to off to let the fuel system run dry before shutting the engine off. The mystery is that it never stopped running. I played around the house/dock for 5 minutes then ran up and down the river a couple more times. Did not run out of fuel. Came back and put it up on my jet slide and checked to make sure the mechanic I had rebuild the carbs last did not bypass the selector. It is not bypassed. Function of the selector fills smooth and normal with a very well defined click/stop at each position. Any ideas how one of these could exhibit this kind of failure?

These valves are built a few different ways, usually with O rings or with a few different seals leading to each passage way. They could have been eaten by ethanol gas or just corroded over time.

They're very easy to take apart shouldn't be more than a 10 minute job to investigate.

Probably an internal seal issue. They are somewhat of a weak link. Replace it.

I'm going to do just that. I knew they had issues, but couldn't figure how it could malfunction in this manner.

Ok, I finally ordered and received a new selector valve and pulled the Doo out to change it. Got it replaced. While I had it out of the water I decided to check the low speed adjustment because the last guy that rebuilt my carbs had stated he had tried to tune out the bog off of idle that I found out to be a clogged a-pump nozzle. I made a goof and started turning another screw that turned out not to be the LS on the MAG carb. I think it is the throttle lever stop adjustment. So ...

1) I need to know how to get this back in to proper adjustment.

Also, I found an oil leak just under the oetiker clamp on the oil pump nipple. I am not sure how or why it's leaking here.

2) what could cause a leak here ?

Ok, fixed all of this.

1) This was the throttle lever stop adjustment that you use to adjust idle. I got it back to proper idle position. Also, found out that index lines for oil pump did not line up. I adjusted appropriately. It was on the rich side so at least that was alright.

2) the leak turn out to be a slight slit in the oil supply line just below. Oetiker clamp. This is new line so I am not sure where the slit came from. I removed clamp cut about 1" off including the slit and reapplied supply line to pump without introducing any air. I bled the system just in case though.

So everyone, make sure you inspect things often. This was a disaster waiting to happen. But PTL he let me see it before anything did.
