fuel pumps

1st of all, Happy boating season all!!

I will be doing the high-volume fuel pump installation this weekend. Any issues with using the clear blue fuel line for all connections? I don't want them to collapse like jhjesse's plastic fuel filters. The clear blue just looks like they are softer than regular black fuel line. Maybe they are hard though.. I don't know... thus the question.

I would think that you are fine using the blue fuel lines. My problem was a bad fuel filter not the fuel lines. Probably defective from the manufacturer. I went with metal high volume filters and fixed the problem.

Jhjesse,

Thanks for the write-up and pictures. I followed this procedure to install my pumps. The best $120 I've spent on this boat. Performance increase was immediately noticeable. Idle is now smooth. Acceleration is crisp. And i can run WOT now!!! Boat has never run this good. So thanks again for your write-up. Thumbs up given.

I'm going to do this just because of the benefits described.

Thanks for the write up on this install!

Sounds like you have multiple issues that you need to fix. Look at the manual and go through the procedures for setting the idle, and adjusting your throttle/oil pump cables. If you take the carbs off, you can make sure the low and high speed screws are set correctly also. Be sure to change your plugs if you determine the screws were not set correctly. If none of that helps, do a carb rebuild.

Problems in the fuel pump usually show up at high RPMs, not idle speed. Unless it's just completely toast. If it's toast, then it would have gradually gotten to that point. Not just all of a sudden. I'm not a professional, just talkin from my own experience.

For the OP: That's a nice set up. I have the same pumps, but mine are not nicely mounted like yours.

Are those fuel filters rated for below deck? I wish I could see thru mine, but I have not found any see thru filters that are rated for below deck/inboard install. I use Spin On fuel filters/water separators with a bracket (and because I spent some time fighting Ethanol I have a CRAZY set up where both engines are fed from TWO shared filters in SERIES, so my fuel is 10 micron double filtered!)

The pumps are great, and they look slick mounted on your boat.
