fuel issues HELP

i have a 02 gtx di that i just rebuilt. i cant get it started. i just put a new pump in and i’m getting 80 psi w the gauge installed. the gauge was leaking so i was also loosing pressure from there. should i have a check valve installed? i tested the direct injectors w an ohm meter and i got 2.6 on both. the book says i should be getting 1.9omhs. the air injectors have 1.6 ohm. that’s whats the book says that is should have. i then tested to see if the regulator may be leaking but it wasn’t. i have 90psi coming from the compressor. the book says both the injectors and air injectors should be getting 12 volts. the injectors only have around 3 volts and the air injectors were jumping around 6. what gives. it will run on fluid but won’t start.

What fuel pump did you buy? If it wasn't and oem one direct from seadoo that's your problem.

At 80 psi it won't do anything, it has to be exactly 107 psi.

The manual states fuel pressure should be 107 +/- 2lbs.
We have run aftermarket fuel pumps ($100) with no problem (first one failed) but had a SeaDoo fuel pump ($800) fail after 15 hours.
80lbs is not nearly enough pressure

The $100 fuel pump you are referring to do you happen to know the brand name and model number of the pump? Also how many hours do you have on these aftermarket pumps? That had to be a big disappointment only getting 15 hours out of an OEM pump!

If I remember correctly it came from Highflow fuel pumps/Quantum Fuel Systems. Highflowfuel.com.
When the boat was sold it had about 30 hours on it.

Seadoo DI (Direct Injection) Fuel Pump Replacement Guide
make sure you do some research first.
In regards to the SD pump, it was over $1,000. we installed it in the fall. didnt ride over the winter and it failed in the spring. we called SD. they said 90 day warranty!
You would think that SD would re-engineer a fuel pump with such a high failure rate! It appears they did not. they keep selling the garbage!
Good luck with your Sea doo!

When I bought my first DI ski last spring (a 2002GTXDI) I read the how to article that you mentioned. So before I ever took the ski on the water I replaced the OEM pump with the high flow fuel pump recommended in the article with their latest version part number HFP-342DI. I only got about two hours of running time on it until the next time I went to try to start it in the water and it would not run. Checked the fuel pressure when I got home was only 90 psi. So I cleaned the OEM pump with gas/toluene and put it in the ski and it hasn’t let me down since. Although it only has 104 psi. Actually both my DI skis only have 104 psi. Maybe I would get a little better performance if I had 107 psi. But until they croak I’ll leave the OEM pumps in. Matter-of-fact I still have the failed high flow fuel pump on the shelf. I think it has a lifetime warranty I’m not sure, but if I did get a new replacement I’m not sure I would put it in anyway. Hopefully your OEM pump is not the norm, but good info nonetheless. I was just curious if you found something new we haven’t heard of. Thanks for sharing JIM.

Actually the seadoo pumps are fine, it’s the new fuel and lack of maintenance by the owners that make them go out.

There are more of the highflows that don’t work as there are that do. In the end use what you think is best but be prepared if it doesn’t work.

I have had failures and everyone I have met with DI engines has had to replace their OEM pumps, some more than once. With that in mind I would not call the OEM pumps "fine". Since SD cant make a fuel pump last because of new fuel, maybe they need new engineers? Also, what maintenance is there with an electric fuel pump? SD recommends replacing the fuel filter at TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY HOURS! I have never heard of their fuel pump lasting anywhere near that long!
I love RIDING a Sea Doo put their parts are, being kind, sub-par.
since your old pump is producing 104 lbs, that is only 1 lb below spec, maybe it will last a while. but for how long? I would return your defective aftermarket pump and keep the new one on hand.
Good luck!

I would agree with you seadoo is crazy replacing the filters since a DI will probably never get to 250 hours. I would suggest every couple years.

Fuel pressure and strong battery is paramount on a DI.

"Fuel pressure and strong battery is paramount on a DI." EXACTLY. one thing you should never do is run the Di with a low battery. my understanding is the charging system is designed to keep a charged battery charged, not charge a low battery. doing so is not good for the charging system.

Yes, all PWC’s just use a flying magnet and a coil to charge a battery. It is not like a car alternator and at best will just keep a good battery charged, not charge a dead battery.
