Hi I have a1995 sportster (single eng.) starting last year at WOT or 3/4 and above the engine /carb. would run out of fuel. engine would slowly loose power 5 seconds ? or so until it quit. I wait 30 seconds and it will start right up .would run fine at 1/2 throttle but WOT would run out of fuel. It has gotten worse it still will idle fine but 1/3 throttle or more the motor quits. It must be running out of fuel. I changed the fuel filter on the bulkhead it was fine. I know there is a filter in the tank what else might be causing it? PS it ran fine the last 4 years and the entire boat is in very good condition for its age. Thanks

Hi and welcome to the SeaDoo forum.

You'll have to excuse me because I'm not that well versed with boats, but the mechanics have a lot of similarities with ski's. So to begin. Does your boat have grey tempo fuel lines. If so you will have some work to do. Also there are small fuel filters inside the carbs, these are tiny mesh type filters and they will need to be cleaned or replaced. If you choose to clean then use a water based cleaner like SuperClean or PurplePower, carb cleaner will melt them.

This will at least keep this thread alive and maybe someone with a single engine boat will see it and contribute.

Lou

I do not believe the boats ever used the "Grey Tempo" line. Someone will chime in to confirm this.

they do not , the boats have to conform to US Coast Gaurd Specs, The fuel line is for 2 hour fire rating.
However the description sounds like carbs need to be rebuilt, run a compression test first.

If all is well for the first 3/4 throttle your losing fuel to the pump somewhere, the only way it's a carb issue is if the control arm is bent down to far and the diaphragm pusher can't open the needle all the way.

Usual suspect is the fuel selector valve, try turning it to reserve and see if it clears up if so replace it along with the fuel filter and go have fun.

Hi I Did NOT touch anything in 5 years .ran perfect up until a year ago has been getting worse .just got the boat out of storage. Compression is 145 on both cyls. IT held it for at least 15 minutes. Im sure fuel valve /and lines are all original. I will get a new fuel valve .Is there a fuel filter in the tank inside carb? Thanks Chris

No filter in the tank, there are small basket filters in each of the carbs that may be causing your problem that can be cleaned and or the fuel pump is tired and not building enough pressure any longer.

At 20 years old it wouldn't hurt to pull those carbs and clean and rebuild them with new parts as needed, the fuel pump is integrated on the front mag side carb and any reputable supplier of Mikuni parts kits include the fuel pump parts needed to bring it back up to snuff.

Hi Changed fuel valve and still wont start. where are the little filters located ?In the carbs? carb is off engine can I just change the diaphrams? what parts make up the fuel pump to replace? looks like it has never been touched .am replacing the fuel line at the same time ends are swollen. Had small ammt.of injector oil always reappearing in bilge, both tiny oil lines, under oil injector (check valve?) were broke.will replace. Thanks selling it when done as channel I am on in mich is now full of weeds.

Hi if I cant get it running do you do repair? or who can?carb looks pretty simple.ran perfect before until it slowly quit getting gas.I have parts service manual.

there is your answer.

I would use a pump and pull gas through the lines and see if that works good, I use one of the hydroturf rigs, has a clear hose.

who rebuilt the carbs?

Wow you should see all the white powder in the fuel pumps! most the rubber gaskets /seals were compromised .I can not believe it still ran at all. got gaskets kits etc for rebuild. fuel filters in carb were least of the problem but mostly clogged but stuck in from white powder. NEVER been touched in 20 years. How do I get the old main( needle) /seat out I have new ones. I see it has a screw with a keeper and the seat screws in with an o-ring Scared of breaking the brass seat off in carb, cant get good leverage on it. if it wont come out ill use the new needle with the old seat. actually the needle and seat looked pretty good and still worked or it would not have run. Thanks for any ideas. Chris

I use a as new number 2 stuby phillips.
You can grab the outside with some needle nose and work it back forth.
I usually just chuck them as they come in the kit from OSD.

untouched carbs

I rebuilt carbs last fall , diaphragms, gaskets loaded with white power (moisture?) no pitting on aluminum carbs internal,,I can't believe it ran at all. carb was untouched and original from 1995.does not seem to be pulling fuel into carbs after rebuild. Does it need to be primed? I spent about 1/2 hour attempting to get it started last fall. .I did NOT spend a lot of time messing with it after carb rebuild Then I put it in storage. I may have messed up rebuild , i was careful rebuilding cleaning but NOT familiar with 2 stroke carbs /Strange looking valves . I would think fuel pump NOT pulling fuel correctly. 150 pounds of compression on each cylinder. replaced all fuel lines .graschris
