Free ski

What do you guys think of this? Got it for free, been sitting outside for a few years. It's a 3 seater with a 657, dual carb, hull id ends in 94. So I think it's a 94 GTX. Everything seems still intact.
Removed the plugs and was able to turn it over by hand. Removed the intake/carbs, small amount of water came out of the rotary valve holes.
Removed top end cover, and gave it some fogging oil, turned over a little easier. Seems to be some rust stain between the piston and the wall? Not sure

What to do next? Check compression and see if it fires up?

The correct way to do it would be a complete gasket and seal kit and rebuild the carbs with new Genuine Mikuni parts.
That would give you a great ski to use all summer for only a couple hundred bucks.

With water coming out of the intake bolt holes that means there was water in the crank case and crank shaft. If the crankshaft has rust on the bearings it will destroy itself and the engine cases.

Also without new o-rings on the intake and head you are going to have leaks. But if you just want to see if it fires up before tearing it down and doing it the correct way then go for it. Little gas down the carbs and see if it fires off.

Yes i agree but a free ski a lot to lose lube the crank bearings. And let here eat but definitely not the right way but. All depends on how much stuff you want to throw at it

Hooked up a new battery, pushed start button, no sound at all, not even a click.
Can I jump the starter itself using pliers or a thick cable or do I have to jump the solenoid. Is the solenoid inside the ebox? Kind of hard to get it out.

Yeah you can jump the relay with a screwdriver or pliers. It’s in the ebox

Is it just me or does that look like pitting from detonation on the outskirts of the piston in the first picture.

Looks like lots of crud inside ye crankcase, safe to crank it a few times to get the compression? When I turn the rear flywheel, I do feel considereable amount of resistance

I feel like this is a joke? That’s junk. Either start over with another ski or complete rebuild with new crank, bore

Crank it 99% junk but you could crank it over but if you are planning on rebuilding the motor then I would not spin it over. If it blows and you don’t care then have at it 🤷‍♂️

Cutting up the ski for research purposes, what's the white wire for? Looks like it's been cut off. Engine does crank when I jumped the solenoid.
