Flushing locations

From the parts catalog diagram, it looks like I can just put a cap on the pump's flushing connector in order to use the top flushing connector. Is this correct? It would be much easier to do this than to clamp the hose.
 
Yes... it has a threaded output. BUT... there is a restriction in it... and you should get enough flow without plugging it off. If you do plug it off... DO NOT FORGET TO REMOVE THE PLUG !!!! If you do... you will overheat the engine.

anyway, the PO on ours had these brass threaded unions with caps (hardware store stuff) and when he flushed he capped off the pump ports and used the flush ports under the hatch...

I said poopie on that and removed my upper flush ports altogether, hoses and all and one less area for any leak to start. if I need to flush (we run in fresh water) then I simply hook up to the rear ports just like a jet ski...
