why is it called flame arrestor? I have a 98 xp limited and the alame arrestor stays unlatched. It only has one latch on the top, I latch it down and it is open before I have gone 1000 feet. In fact it has been running unlatched for the 8 hours that I have had it on the lake since I purchased it from such a great previous owner that put it through hell. NOW the carbs need cleaning and trying to figure out how to even get to them.

I have not seen another xp engine before so I dont know what the flame arrestor on this is supposed to look like, as far as I know this one is from a VW. Like mentioned before it has just 1 on the top. thanks

It's a flame arrestor, because it contains a back-fire... and it doesn't filter the air.

If you only have one clip... then you should buy a few more clips to hold the lid on better.

If you need to know if it's the factory unit... post a pic, and we will help.

your 951 flame arrestor does in fact have only 1-clip to secure it onto the tops of the carbs. Get yourself a pin-clip, like the one you use on the cranking wheel on your trailer, and install it through the bottom of the lid clip. Will hold it in place, good and tight.

Mr. Honda, maybe I have been working on cars to long, but how can Carbs exist breathing dirty air? This Flame arrestor at least the one that I have seems useless, why have anything there at all? Riverdog, I am trying to get into my head what you are talking about but cant seem to get my head around it. Do you have an example or a picture of one already done? I took the exhaust out to get to the carbs, maybe the next time I will not have to, but with not knowing what and how everything was attached no way to do it with the exhaust still atached. I thought things on my Porsche 928s were tight. Maybe the Canadians have been drinking with the Germans? LOL.

Also, on one of the carbs the rubber ring that more or less would seal it against the arrestor is gone, one has it and the other does. How important is this?
