Well this is my first boat and first time on a this forum. So I figured I would post and say hello. A month ago I bought a 1996 seadoo speedster for $900. At that price I couldn't resist. The boat had a few problems that all seemed to be minor and I guess the seller just didn't want to fix them. One motor was loose from the mounting plate and the other had a broke off manifold bolt and the gaskets were shot. All was a easy fix and not much cost. Took the boat out only a few times (being winter and all) and everything seems to run great!
All and all the boat was in amazing shape, cosmetic wise but I did do a little more work in other areas that I wanted to look the way I wanted.
-Fully rewired the trailer.
-New black trailer fenders with led amber marker lights.
-Dressed up the motors by painting the top/back covers and the full exhausts black and adding chrome bolts.Yes just for looks of course.
-Removed all of the factory graphics and replaced them with mine that I made. I figured the mid 90's are gone so the graphics had to go too! I did a full cut and buff on the whole boat since you could see where the old stickers were and over all just to put that nice fresh shine back in the boat.
-Replaced the manifold/exhaust gaskets on both engines.
-Replaced all the upholstery.
and as soon as UPS shows up tomorrow I will have my full hydro turf kit. I went with the molded diamond in dark gray.

The only thing I have left on my "to do" list is get and install a full stereo system.

Loving this site! I know its going to be very helpful to me being my first boat and all. Keep up the good work!

Sounds like you dont need our help...lol

One thing you said was chrome plated hardware...i would ditch that and put some stainless in. The plating will likely corrode and make those bolts impossible to get out.

Congrats on the steal and welcome to the site.

Sadly I have already seen a small amount of rust already in the pocket of the alen head bolts :( I will hit up the hardware store tomorrow to replace them all to stainless. Working on uploading progress photos. I know its an old boat and all but for the condition and price I cant complain. I never even knew about these boats before but I have to say I love this thing! In fact I don't even think we have a seadoo dealer in my area. Closest would be in Vegas.

Also I will for sure need your guys help! I don't have much knowledge beyond cosmetic, turning bolts and basic wiring. I was told the top end has never been touched. I was thinking of doing a top end rebuild but didn't know if I should just stay with the stock 82mm(718cc) or bump it to the 84mm(754cc) wiseco pistons, if that's even a power difference you would feel or make any difference?

Check the compression. If it's 150 I wouldn't bother with going oversized. If your reading is 135 or lower, it needs top end work. You could go oversized if that is what you would like.
