Well I finally got my new 300 wet this weekend and put about three hours on it. Im coming off a GTI 130 so I was blown away about the amount of fuel this new ski uses.

Now granted I was in sport mode but I used a full tank of gas without putting an hour on the ski and that was not going full out all the time. I took a nice ride around the lake I live on varying the speed and yes a few open throttle moments and just watched the bars go down very quickly. I am not new to boats or snowmobiles etc and know this should change a bit once break in is done and all and the rings settle and all but I found that to be way excessive. Am I wrong ?

I like the way the ski handled even in the rough water and it reacts very well. The only thing I thought would be improved was the mid range to full throttle. Like all other skis I have rode once you hit mid throttle that's it and there is no more speed or acceleration from mid throttle to top speed.

The last issue is the new seating area for the driver. I'm a big guy so my stomach is always rubbing on the front of the seat which is a bit annoying. Its needs to be a few inches longer

Other than that the ski is GREAT and I hope the gas consumption gets better.

Stay off the boost!
Its hard I know
My buddy just moved up to 300 from FX HO since he wanted more speed.

I ride FX SHO with cruise assist for the first part of ride and then go full boost towards the end of ride when I know I can come back on fumes.

You'll have to learn time vs consumption and distance on that ski VS older one that would never run out after a days ride.
Shouldn't be to hard on a lake though
Just have fuel jugs at home to refuel.

I had to give him my gas so he felt comfortable he had gas to ride back.

Its a fun ski no doubt!

I will vogue for Ocod's cruise control method. He and I ride fairly often. I have a 2008 RXT-X with a 255. I TRY to be polite but it is so hard not to play with the throttle. I'm at a half a tank and he is down one maybe two bars...

seadoos never bragged about fuel consumption, mine sucks too, keeping long bursts down helps a bit, also eco mode or whatever they call it these days.

the seat might take a little getting used to.

RE: the midrange.

I'm a little, well, actually a lot surprised that going from a 130 (not fast at all) to a 300 that you would have a neutral at best opinion of the midrange pull. I would think it would be arm yanking strong from any speed right into the mid 60's like your on a slingshot.

Maybe we're still breaking in ?

i read that the ecu is programed to not allow full power till break in period is complete. like it should unleash some more power at 5 hrs and full power unleash at 10 hrs. that's probably why you don't feel the full potential in the mids and hi end power. 7 more hours to go :)

Keep breaking it in like said above computer limits power till break in is done, finish breaking it in and then get back to us and see where things stand.

This. Once you're broken in, go for a vtech tune. You'll certainly feel the midrange and top end!

Nice ski and congrats. A full tank in under an hour during break in.. wow.

I have a 2016 GTR 215. At five hours, the mid to top end REALLY woke up and the fuel consumption went way down. Right now, you're limited in top RPM and let me tell you, that last thousand or so RPM makes a HUGE difference! It was such a difference I almost fell off the thing.

Before my five hours were up, I went 0-60 in 14 seconds. Now, with 9 hours on it, it goes 0-60 in 6.2. I can also trim the jet all the way up, nail it in Sport after doing a couple of quick 360's and get some decent air off my own water.

Your 300 is going to go through gas like a crackhead does coke after winning the lottery. That's just a given for your power level.

I thought about a tune but my dealer warned BRP checks seriously now if there is any warranty issue and can tell if you flashed for a tune or not and will void my 4 years warranty.

Plus I find the price on the tuner and tune RIDICULOUS ! I have been tuning my trucks and other toys for years and have never paid half what they want for the tuner and one tune credit.

Same here. When I purchased my 2016 GTR 215, the dealer was AWESOME! I got the special with an extra year of warranty service for a total of two years. When I asked about an aftermarket tune, my salesman was very honest and said to wait till after the warranty was over.

I've read about the limited tuners and their reasoning for asking the prices they do. Their excuse is that they reach a very limited audience, so they have to charge a LOT more.

I have a 2015 Explorer Sport with the 3.5L Twin Turbo V6. A tuner and tunes runs less than $600. My 2011 Mustang GT with Jon Lund tunes and SCT X3 tuner was less than $400. It's friggin ridiculous what they want for a tuner and tune on these Jetski's. What they don't realize is they would make MUCH more money with volume than the ridiculous prices they want at this point. I will NEVER pay the exorbitant prices they call for a tuner and tune.

Breaking the strategy codes for these vehicle ECU's requires one HELL of a lot more work than the BRP ECU's do.

I wanted to update this thread after this weekend. I managed to get some more time on my new 300 and WOW. The hours gauge finally hit three hours and when it did the computers now released me to 8000 rpm and holy moly does this machine haul a$$ ! Best I saw on the speedo was 79 and I can see now why some are unlocking and flashing them. You clearly feel the GPS holding the machine back and slowing you down. I might be doing it sooner than I expected.

My wife felt like going for a ride also so I uncovered the GTI 130 and we went around the lake for a good ride and staying beside her and off the boost did make a diff on fuel consumption. Once she was back at home I went back to sport mode and had a bit more fun. She still eats fuel but hey you don't by a machine like this for fuel economy do you :)

So far so good. If the machine unlocks anymore as get closer to 10 hours this thing is going to be a beast !

Don't get yourself killed! Friend of mine found out (in time) how easy it is to make mistakes at these kinds of speed...

Benji.

I finally got my new GTX 300 out this past Saturday and let her go at just past 1 hour. That's some scary power, hitting 70 on light chop with no effort and my screaming wife on the back. Hard to hold on. I can't believe the computer is holding back any more power.

The only downside to this I can see is she is very thirsty, even in the eco mode. I've been putting in 92 octane fuel although one section of the manual says to use 87 and another says 92. I'll err on the upside even though you can't buy 92 on the water around here.

I have been burning 91 as thats all we can get here but if it keeps drinking like that I will be going to regular gas for a bit.

Friend of mine has a 260 RXT TC. He can make 76 mph. Not much difference between 260 and 300 I think. I am jealous but I do not have that kind of money. :(

One funny/bizarre thing I noticed: when he goes from idle to WOT, the turbo takes about 1 second to kick in. During that 1 second, my old GTI 2-stroke kicks in as fast as his. But at 1.1 second, he's gone in Sports mode.

Benji.

Good I feel better, I ride a 255 and a couple of ride buddy's do as well and those that have been on the 300 were dam impressed, so your initial ride report had me scratching my head.

FWIW the speedo is not accurate, but it is a good guideline. I have a gps on the handlebar and occasionally check it against the speedo. Generally speaking its about 4mph off on the high end. When i'm going 25 gps it varies between 28-30, when i'm going 60 gps it says 65ish, I don't think my speedo reads higher than 70, i've never seen it go over but I can pull 71.7 gps.

looking forward to the 10 hour report :)

braaap !

Man, I wouldn't go lower than 91. The manual might SAY it can run on 87, but something I've learned about boosted motors.

The lower the octane, the lower the lifetime of the engine. High compression and boosted engines NEED that higher octane to reduce the risk of detonation. Once you factor in we are running these high horsepower, boosted engines on WATER, the scope of situations that leads to disaster widens tremendously.

Also, the lower the octane, the lower the power. My 2015 Explorer Sport loses 40hp and 50lb/ft of torque by using 87 instead of 93. My Explorer uses the 3.5L Twin Turbo Ecoboost engine.

In my area, the difference from 87 octane to 93 is $.40 per gallon. For only seven bucks per tankful, I'll consider that some cheap ass insurance!

Well got another few hours on the ski this weekend for a total of 5 hours and it just keeps on giving. Speed is still climbing but you can feel the GPS holding u back even more now which is too bad. This machine would hit 85mpg easy without it I feel. I have raced boats and snowmobiles for years and the torque in this ski is crazy !

The sweet spot for no boost is 6000 RPM and 50MPH and the gas will last the minute you go over the bars just dropped but as I said earlier you dont buy a machine like this for fuel economy.

Will update again as the machine gets broken in further.
