I recently bought a 2003 GTX 155 as a second machine for my wife ,the seller ( husband of one of my clients) claimed it had been winterized and oil changed but it had sat indoors for a few years , oil looked fresh so I drained fuel and lines , filled and soaked the fuel lines with seafoam overnite , changed plugs, new battery, filled with premium 91 and started on the trailer ran it 20 seconds took it to the lake ran a little rough at first got up on plane , lots of cavitation ,rpm was good top speed 30 mph. Thanks to this forum it was easy you see wearring was pouched, ended up having wearing replaced by local dealer . Took it out 5-6 more times 45-60 minute runs , amazing the torque difference and each time it ran more smooth than the last outing . This weekend we extended the run as my wife's confidence increased we ran for 1 1/2 hrs on some rougher water it ran great .Upon return to the ramp it started to beep 4 beeps continual , shut it down and reinstalled DEES and beeps came back, dash said to check engine and sensor,,,,, checked oil which was fine , no water leaking anywhere. I asked my wife if she had felt anything different , slipping , cavitation ? 15 minutes later I Decided to try it for myself, plugged in the DEES and beeping had stopped so I played with the throttle,RPM's were fine but minimal torque and no go , ramp was busy so we loaded and took the 4 minute drive home where I inspected the impeller front and back looking for weeds and it was clear so I took it back to the lake by myself , dusk was approaching and beach was empty so I stayed in the channel and near the ramp . It ran great smooth as silk good torque , opened it up all the way for the first time since getting it ,speedo got to 54 mph ( had a little wind at my back) played for an hour and couldn't recreate the problem.
It is a weedy lake ,we had run in a charted channel but is it possible weeds had gradually plugged on a long steady 30 mph run and plugged water intake for an overheat problem ? I see some on here spoke of oil pressure issues ? We were planning a tour next weekend with a group up in northern Ontario and now I am nervous as previous boating history (breakdowns)with my wife takes the fun out of it. Any ideas or comments appreciated .
