Hello all,
Me and a couple of friends went to the Lake today and my two friends went out on my seadoo and they tried to splashed me on the bank, and they ran it up the bank and a rock punctured the fiberglass. Now there is a half dollar size hole in the Hull. I need help on the proper way to fix this weather to go to AutoZone and buy a fiberglass repair kit or go to a place that specializes in boat fiberglass repair. I am trying to do this as inexpensive as possible.

please help
Chris

good luck

PWCs and inexpensive are not to be used in the same sentence...

my recent lil fiberglass damage, which didnt puncture the hull is costing about $500 to have fixed

your going to need to be able to get to the inside of the hull where the damage is and lay several layers of ne glass there, as well as some reinforcements to strenghten what is now the weakest spot on the hull

I just fixed a hole in a boat that was 2 feet tall and 5 feet long and took me to day's. Can you take pictures and post them???? would make it easter in explaining what you need to do. Glass work is not hard but it is messy.

Damage Pics 1 of 2

Here are some pics of the damage there is on pic that is of a crack but I don't know how deep it is and if it needs to be sanded down and filled on or if the crack just needs to be left alone.. There are also some pics of the bottom of the Boat that Night need to be addressed there not deep but they are there so you tell me if I need to fill them in please...
Thanks
Chris

the hole is deff the most important thing right now, id focus on that first

your going to want to pick up some fiberglass matt, they sell it at some paint stores, i think in several different precut squares, i myself use the 12x12 for audio enclosures

if i was to be doing this, i would get a drywall repair kit (the one with the steel mesh screen), id use the steel screen as a base then id apply several layers of glass (not one directly on top of the other, stagger them) on the inside of the hull and a few on the outside (making sure to fill in the depression of the hole)

also make sure you rough up the hull whereever the new glass will be placed so that it has a good adhesion

then once the glass/epoxy has hardened, sand down the glass on the outside and re-finish

If I was to do this on my own would I need to take out the engine and styrofoam so I can get to the whole easier on the inside of the boat?

dunno, i cant tell where on the hull the hole is exactly, can you try to get a picture of it from the inside?

The whole is about 1ft from back of boat and if you were sitting on the boat its the driver side right under the lip... and no I can't get a pic from the inside cause there is styrofoam in the way.

Thanks
Chris

hmmm well regardless of if you do it or not, YOU NEED to be able to get to the back side for a proper repair

here i found some good videos for you to watch, The hole will be the hardest one to fix but i think youll be able to do it. and does that crack go all the way through??? (and the scraps on the bottom of the hull can be sanded, cleaned, then filled with white gel coat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWEE6SFUdpg&feature=related might take a couple application to build it up then you sand it with 200-400 grit paper till is smooth) you can also sand that whole hull if you want then buff it and itll look new but that step is last.
id use a kit like you mention befor and apply these steps the best you can) Once you have ALL areas fixed and smooth you can paint the hull best way would be to spray it, sometime u can lightly sand and buff the hull to make it shine like new again but this step is after youv fixed and applyed gel coat to the repair area. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6N7YMr6E564&feature=related
