Failed attempt at taking boat out-questions??

For the second time since we got it we tried taking our boat out (2003 Sportster 951 Carb) and it was a no go, first time was weather related, this time I had a couple of issues.
1. The boat WILL NOT steer to the left and I am completely lost-the boat hasn't been in the water since I replaced the jet pump and driveshaft and when I got it in the water today everything was good, no issues with forward/reverse, engine ran great and the jet nozzle turns fine both directions when you turn the wheel on the trailer but in the water the boat will only turn straight and right any ideas what could cause this? Cable issue? It doesn't make sense because it turns fine both directions on the trailer.

2. No water comes out of the hole on the swim platform at idle, is this normal?? It does come out once the engine is revved up but not at idle in the water, hooked to the hose to flush out it sprays out fine as well.

Thanks in advance!

I think you will find the steering cable housing has broke/separated.

It will normally steer at slow speeds but not higher speeds when this happens.

Yep to what he said. The outer sheath separated from the jacket. Without it... there's no support to "Push" the nozzle to the left. The cable just bends.

As far as the pee hole... that one isn't easy. You have to pull hoses off, and blow into them with compressed air, until you find the plug. BUT... you may be lucky, and it's just the pee hole. Try to put a paper clip in it, and see if it's plugged.

Thanks! I will check both of these tomorrow if I have time, should there be a lot of water coming out the pee hole at idle? It comes out great when it is on the hose running but nothing came out in the water until it was 1/4-1/3 throttle. (which is probably about the rpm it runs at fast idle/no load, just wanted to make sure there is nothing I could have done wrong putting the pump back together that would cause it to not come out.

Thanks!

There should be some coming out at idle but maybe not much.
The reason it's strong on the hose is that hose pressure is making it stronger.
On my GTX which now has the pee hole on the side near the front will shoot water about 6 feet on the hose but just a tad at idle until you rev it up.

Yep... what he said.

If water comes out of it at all... it's not plugged at the pee-hole. If everything is perfect... you would get a small amount at idle, coming out. At more than 1/3rd throttle... it should be coming out at a steady stream.

Well finally got time to try again and.......FAIL. The steering seems fine, not sure why it was unresponsive the last time, today once we backed the boat in the water the engine compartment started flooding-the nut on the back side of the scupper valve was loose and letting sea water in, also found out that the bilge pump doesn't work at this time even though it comes on.
There was just a very little water coming out of the black/red plastic thing on top of the muffler any ideas why or where this could be coming from-I don't see any holes in the muffler itself but that plastic thing is very loose-should it be tight?
I also have to replace the rear motor mount as the saltwater/air has rusted it and it has a crack in it, I have another one-anyone have any pointers on replacing it?

Thanks!
Ben
