Exhaust Water Box Valve Questions

Question on the exhaust water valve (97 787 Challenger).

Yesterday I was out and the engine was running fabulously when the RPM dropped (6800 to 6400) with a noticeable change in exhaust tone (got quieter when the RPM was lost).

It recovered, then happened again.

I checked for the free-ness and cleanliness of the RAVE valves and they were fine.

If the water injection valve (exhaust box) was to malfunction, how would it manifest itself? Could this be a cause? Is there a good check for the operation of this valve? Seems like there should be a pressure lift off test or something.

It could be a cause, that calibrated water valve regulator is a pretty simple device and basically only an obstruction in the water supply hose of the regulator valve or cracked bellows or incorrect setting of the adjustment (full three turns out from seated) would impede its ability to regulate the water being correctly injected into the tuned pipe.

It works at the top end by an increase in water pressure overriding the return spring of the regulator valve and delivering less water volume to the injection fitting on your tuned pipe.

A cracked bellows would be the likely culprit here, so long as the needle valve isn't stuck in place or a piece of crud in the water supply tube.
