Exhaust hose getting hot and melting

My exhaust hose between the pipe and the resonator got hot and blew a hole in it after 10-15 minutes of running my boat. It’s a 96 challenger
Any ideas why this would be getting to hot? I know it’s water cooled but not sure if it is getting enough water. Any ideas on what to check?
Thanks in advance!

So I think you're talking about the short section of rubber hose. If so, you bed to look at the water control valve that's on the water box. If that's leaking is stuck it's not putting water to the mud point of the pipe which is injected internally to cool that coupling. It should have a smaller black line going to the pipe. The wcv is on the lower left of the image. You can follow the line to the pipe. If you slide the clip of the valve there is a spring under the cap, be careful. After that you can pull up and remove the valve from the housing. Look under it at the rubber. More than likely the rubber bellow has a hole in it from the metal clamp. If so you'll have to get a bellow or a new wcv which would be the way I would go.

I’ve found that while diagnosing WCV issues, it helps to install a clear hose between the WCV housing and the pipe. This is a temporary thing, as the clear vinyl tubing is designed to handle the heat and gets brittle over time, but it makes it much easier to tell when and how much water is flowing...

Thanks I will try it
