engine shuts down

1995 speedster, I am having some overheating problems, hopefully I have that repaired, flush system out and now have good flow out back of boat. My question is does a speedster have a switch that shuts it off if it gets too hot? Mine will run at 4000 rpm without shutting off but if I try to run it full throttle it will run for about 5 min and just shuts off and the over heat buzzer is on, wait 10seconds and it will start again and run for maybe 3or 4 min and shuts down.What am I missing. have checked fuel it look clean even the filter inside the carbs. Help! would like to take it on a trip this weekend.

May be a faulty head temp sensor.

do the 1995 speedster have a switch to shut them off when they are too hot? when we were flushing system I can get water to flow through all but one port and is is the small 3/8 elbow on the purple exhaust casting, should I have been able to push water through it with a garden hose?
