My 2004 speedster was working great. Just floated it and the right engine would rev but would not move the boat (there was a vibration also). Put boat on trailer and returned to the house. Washed and flushed everything as I have been. Removed the right impeller housing expecting to find a damaged wear ring (all looks great). The splines in the impeller and shaft look fine. The shaft cannot be turned by my hands.

Any ideas of what to look for next?

Sometimes we can pick up things in the water like a lilypads, plastic bags or god only knows. It will clog the intake grate and make the engine shake and not take off. You can try and turn the engine off and see if the debre will let go, if not you will have to reach behind and under the boat and see if you can clean out intake grate.

While the boat was in the water the engines were secured and the intakes checked for debree (none found). Engines restarted and same problem. I am concerned that the shaft splines that couple to the engine are damaged (how I am not sure). Since I have the impeller out I would like to check them. The manual dictates the use of a few specific tools (which I do not have). Is there any other way to safely remove the shaft to inspect the splines and coupling, or is this a dealer item?

You may have a engine problem. I just read someone elses post were they had a problem very similer to yours and they said it turned out to be the engine. I realy can not say for sure what is going on.

whatdya mean shaft cannot be turned by hand. the pump shaft in the boat with pump removed? or the impeller when you have it in your hand. the impeller should spin freely. if not the bearings are a problem. if you remove the plugs, you might be able to turn motor by the pump shaft, but it will still be hard. with plugs in you shouldn't be able to.

:agree: My bad I did not read correctly. I must have been thinking that he was trying to turn the engine over by the drive shaft. I was not thinking that he was trying to turn the pump shaft. The pump does have a problem. :stupid:

I removed the pump and checked everything. Wear Ring clearance was .005". Reassembled the pump ensuring all was sealed well. Tested Boat tonight and it worked Great!!!. Thanks for all the advice...

Mine has done this before too. I just completly turned it off and turned on the fan blower for 5 minutes, then it ran just fine. I dont think the fan had anything to do with it but i had forgot to turn on the fan to let the gas vapors go out the exhaust.
