OK I will be ordering a new motor through Sbt.com. Does anybody know if the shipping cost is on top of the cost of the motor or if it's included? Also if I can send in my 657x core to get the 717 motor?

Shipping is on top and I believe is around $175. You cannot swap engine sizes.

it seems like a long block makes alot of sense, but I do know that rebuild kits are very popular and are ecomical.

if an engine was never rebuilt previously, wouldn't a top end rebuild be good enough (if say you are just trying to raise compression from say 120 back to spec?)

Yes that would likely bring your compression back but your spending alot of time and money on a motor with 22 year old crank seals/bearings if we're assuming it has never been rebuilt. Sbt is fast but uses some pretty lame parts and unless you can just go get the parts from their place in Florida their shipping is stupid

What do you mean they use lame parts?
