Wanted to test boat before putting in water for the season. First attempt, the boat chirped twice but when start switch is pressed engine won't start, but we do hear clicking.
Tried a new battery...now no chirps and 5 amp EMS fuse is blown.
Could we have caused damage hooking up the new battery, which is a 690 amp battery? The original battery is a three year old 630 amp battery so we thought replacing it was a good idea.
Any ideas what we did wrong?
Thanks.:stupid:

gets worse

...replaced the fuse and shorted something out. Smoke came out of front fuse box area as soon as we switched the battery on.
We are going to have to go to the dealer. Warranty expired less than three months ago.
What might we expect at the dealer?

Thanks for your response. The boat did sit for over one year in storage, we intalled new plugs and drained and refilled the oil and changed the oil filter. We've done this before without problem.
Could this problem be from the boat being in storage so long?

sounds weird, but I remember a member, who bought battery and it had reverse polarity...so I guess, you have to hook it up backwards, or you did...?

battery

We charged the battery before putting it in the boat. It charged okay so I don't think reverse polarity on the battery is the problem. We did make sure the cables were hooked up correctly to the boat, red positive, black negative (with the ground cable). I tested the blower and courtesy lights prior to trying to start the boat to make sure the battery was working and they worked okay. When I put the DESS key on, no chirps and burning smell, opened the fuse cover under the driver dash and smoke billowed out. No other fuses were blown, just the EMS fuse located in the fuse box near the solenoid.

Please start a new thread of your own instead of bringing one back that is almost 9 years old. Thank you.
