Electronics Compatibility from 96 XP to 97 SPX

I've got some questions on electronics compatibility between the 96 XPs and 97 SPX. I ended up buying a 97 SPX that was submerged so I'm going to assume all electronics along with the engine is toast (I haven't picked up the ski yet).

I've also got 2 complete 1996 XPs I bought in the spring as winter projects but are rough cosmetically (mainly sun-faded and crusty). Electronics and engines are good in both though, so I am hoping I can just swap over the MPEM, rear e-box, and engine and have a good running SPX.

Will I be able to simply do this quick swap or do I need to take the entire wiring harness as well? I did notice the MPEM #'s are different on the parts diagrams.

Thanks in advance!!

im glad to see you got that, we where camping saturday night and my son had my phone and dropped it in the water and didnt say a word to me till sunday when i was looking for it...so i took that as a hint

Thanks yah my $250 bid won surprisingly. Sorry you got hosed out of a bid!
I typically use one of the auction sniping services like bidnip so I don't have to monitor the auction. Also makes me stick to my bid limit and not increase at the last second.

Picking this thing up in the morning so I guess I'll find out how compatible the electronics are tomorrow.

Gotta swap a few wire harnesses from the SPX box over to the XP box to deal with the difference in gauges. No biggie.

I picked up the sunken ebay SPX this morning. Here's a summary of what I've found:

Good:
- Hull is super clean outside with only light fading on the lower hull
- clean title
- Almost new Poppy cover
- seat will clean up nicely with minimal mildew staining
- 9 month old AGM battery (hoping it can be revived on the charger)
- most electrical connections appear clean after disconecting.
- MPEM appears to have been water tight so will have to test soon

Bad:
- Didn't realize the SPX came with only a gas gauge [emoji19]
- definitely spent some time completely under water as the inside is covered in mud/silt.
- Due to above there is no shot at saving the engine
- Battery was still connected so lessens likelihood of electronics working after cleanup.

I've started tearing apart one of my 96 XPs to eventually swap every thing out. Will end up with a sun faded XP hull with title if anyone is intetested.
