Ok guys, try this one on! As I said before, new starter, new solenoid, kill switch, start swich and stop switch all ohm out good. Even tried a new push button switch on the start button. I can disconnect the kill switch and jump the solenoid to make the ski turn over (obviously not start) while I am holding down the start button, remove the screwdriver I jumped the solenoid with and the motor continues to turn over. Now to my question, is there something special about the start button on a sea doo? I bought a regular push button switch from Autozone that I used to to jump the solenoid while I was working on it and worked fine as a jumper. Should I have to go out and buy a factory start switch?I am fine with the mechanical parts of these things, but the electrical kills me!!! Any help here is greatly appreciated.

New lanyard post? or did you just ohm it out? even if it ohms out good are you getting power to your lanyard switch, when you insert your lanyard is anything happing? make sure you have power to one side of the lanyard post, then when you insert the lanyard make sure you get a signal on the other side start there and let us know.

Thanks custom. I jumped across the kill switch so as to eliminate it as a problem. It did ohm fine but just to be sure I tied the wiring for the kill switch together, and started at the solenoid again. PLEASE, keep the ideas coming!!! We will eventually run across something. Thanks again!!

did you check for voltage at the lanyard post? and if it does have power to one side does it get anything to the other when you install the lanyard?

what you are calling a kill switch, I think you are referring to the DESS lanyard and it isn't just a kill switch, it's a won't run without it switch. it is a preprogrammed lanyard that it will never run if the MPEM doesn't read it and it is the correct one. that's why custompartsguy is stressing the point. you must get 2 beeps when you put the lanyard on for it to start. you can't disconnect it, jump a wire across, or anything else. it must be used, period.

Now, we'll start from the beginning, are you getting 2 beeps when you put the lanyard on?

To answer your question though, there is nothing special about the red button start/stop switch, it is a simple open circuit and closes the circuit when pressed. The DESS lanyard and post system is special and it doesn't work on ohms, meaning the lanyard does not have a simple resistor in it, much more complicated than that, it's an excellent theft system, better than most auto makers systems.

on this old ski, the " kill " switch, lanyard is just a push button. I can even hold it down with my hand to engage it.right now I have the solenoid "jumped" out with a push button switch, but I sure would like to have it work like it was supposed to.

OK, since you didn't say what ski it was I assumed it was the 96 GTX.

What ski is it?

Check the voltage at the solenoid when the start button is pushed with the lanyard on(all fuses checked). If no voltage and all your switches and connections were checked for continuity, then you have an MPEM problem.
