When I try to start my 97 GTX, I hear one clicking sound from near the battery. The digital gauges go blank and the starter does not crank at all. I can loosen and then re-tighten either the positive or negative cable and then it starts just fine. Could it be the start/stop switch or a grounding issue?

I bet what is happening you may not notice, but when you tighten the battery cables I bet you are pulling without knowing on the cables, check the battery pos wire where it connects and check the main engine ground, I bet you have a loose ground at the engine/starter.
