Does anyone have pictures on intercooler winterizing on supercharged 4 tec?

helped a friend winterize his 05 rxt, pulled hoses off supercharger in the front of the engine , and no water came out , drained exhaust manifold a few drops came out, pour about 10 oz of af into manifold which is pretty straight forward. as the manual states install bottom hose on supercharger and pour about 8 oz of af , we did exactly that took fill hose off and af ran out of fitting, so we put the top hose back on supercharger and pour some more af into bottom fitting of sc, took fill hose off and not much came out. the bottom fitting of the sc says in and the top sc fitting says out . did we do this correctly?

not really, here is what the service manual states and the interpretation in parenthesis...

– Remove both intercooler hoses. (at the ic, both upper and lower)
- Let the intercooler drain, then connect the bottom
hose. (not much will come out)
– Pour approximately 200 mL (6.76 oz U.S.) of
antifreeze into the intercooler. (they forget to tell you to get a short piece of same size hose connected to a funnel and connect the other end to the top side of the ic and pour in the top side of the ic which is actually the exit side under normal operation)
– Then pour approximately 300 mL (10.14 oz U.S.)
of antifreeze into the exhaust manifold.(they forget to tell you the upper hose of the ic goes to the exhaust manifold and just attach your funnel to this upper hose of the ic and pour in here.
– Reconnect the upper hose.

So, basically, you are just disconnecting one hose and pouring in both sides of it, make sense? the manual is not clear at all, I'll give you that.

Simpler to just pump it full of pink RV antifreeze (available at Academy) till pink water starts pouring out the exhaust. I use a cheapo on/off bilge pump with a 5 foot piece of waterhose fitted to it.

Submerge the pump in pink anti-freeze (I cut out the side of a gallon jug, laid on it's side it holds 1 gallon of the pink stuff). Hook the hose to the flush port on your jetpump, start the engine then turn on the bilge pump (I lengthened it's power leads to 6 feet so they can reach the battery in my RXT). Let it pump the anti-freeze in while the engine is idling. I used 2 gallons of the pink stuff in mine, it had pink water coming out the jet pump the overflow and out the exhaust. When you run out of anti-freeze kill the engine and then turn off the bilge pump and that's that.

Also be sure to fog your engine, both while it's running with the antifreeze pumping and then again after you shut it off pull the plugs and spray storage/fogging oil in each cylinder for like 30 seconds then put the plugs back in and crank 20-30 seconds while holding WOT to keep it from starting... this coats the pistons, rings and cylinders with the storage/fogging oil fluid.

The entire process takes a little less than 30 minutes start to finish. Do remember to charge your battery every month it's in storage or plug in a Battery Tender charger full time otherwise your battery will suffer and may even die a horrible low-voltage frozen death.

Regards!

Well said, but I would kill the pump before ahutting off the engine.

Good post,,

Mine are still so new I am doing the dealer thing. I have under 15 hrs on them thus far..

It doesn't matter if you've pumped all the antifreeze in already. Bilge pumps (like I use for this process) can run dry without harm. But whatever floats your boat, either way it doesn't matter in this case.

He said kill the pump before shutting off the engine so you don't fill your engine with antifreeze. The antifreeze will backflow into the motor through the exhaust if it isn't running, just like a 2 stroke.

Not if you've already pumped your antifreeze pan dry.... ya'll not reading what I typed there! :-(

I supposed this is obvious to most of you but I just want to make sure I'm adding antifreeze to the right parts. Which hoses do I add antifreeze to?
