Hello, first post on this forum. My '96 gtx will not run above 5500 RPM, only reaching about 20 MPH. Bought used with only one key and later told this ski comes with a learner key. If so , how can I tell if that is the problem. Have had the fuel tank drained, fuel lines replaced, carbs rebuilt, exhaust leak repaired, and battery replaced. Also new fuel filter and plugs. Thanks

Nope... the learning key was an option on the newer skis. (I think 99 was the first year) Also, it's a very noticeable hit of the rev limiter. It will pull hard, and clean... then just start to clip at 5500 rpm.

Sounds like you may just have a fuel system issue.

Have you checked your compression?

I just thought... 96 GTX has the 800 engine in it.

Have you cleaned the rave valves, and checked for proper operation? If everything else is good... then that is probably the issue.

Have not cleaned the raves. Had to search the stickies to learn how. Did remove the top housing from raves for quick check and one was black and wet inside. Maybe o ring on shaft is bad? Read to also clip plug wires, but plug wire turns ninety degrees inside of boot. Concerned I might destroy boot trying to remove it. Boot will not budge with spot tie removed. Thanks
