Do I need the carb plate?

98 GTX Limited. Cleaning carbs. There is a plate bolted to both carbs w/ 2 bolts each. It looks like all it does is hold the 2 carbs together. I don't have the stock air filter/flame arrestor anymore. I have single flame arrestors on them. Do I even need this plate anymore? Or is it there for a reason?

the main reason for it is to keep everything lined up with the air box. they also have a big o ring on them so no air can leak out. If you have separate boxes on each carb make sure they have some sort of gasket or oring so no air can leak in.
