I've only had our 96 Challenger for a year, so during the de-winterizing process last weekend I did a compression check. Generally on here I see that numbers of 150 are good. Using my Craftsman pressure tester I am getting numbers of 180lbs on one cylinder and 185lbs on the other. So I'm feeling pretty good about the health of the enginebut I was curious what is the compression numbers of a new engine? I didn't see it in the Service Manual but I may have missed it.

180 and 185 is too high unless it's a racing engine. I suspect there is fogging oil in the cylinders when you took the readings. Check it again after you take it for a ride, you also might want to try a different gauge.

My first thought was that it seemed a bit high. I'll take your advice and recheck after a test run.

I suppose too high is better than too low. :)

Concur with the above... To high. These would be good numbers only if certain and specific mods were done that will justify them.
