Hi all,
I have picked up two old seadoos and a trailer for 250.00 One is an 89 the other a 90. Both have good compression and no spark. I was looking for cdi and coil and found that from a seadoo place the cdi=160.00 coil=70.00 I have cross referenced the same year skidoo nordic and see the part # for those parts are identicle. And the coil=29.00 cdi=59.00. I am leaning towards getting the snowmobile parts as they would be in simular service I/E enclosed engine compartment and moisture. Was just looking for some feedback to further concrete my ordering decision. Also I am looking at a snowmobile parts place that has skidoo parts not actual skidoo company. As you may or may not know skidoo uses bombadeir rotax engines in their sleds.
thanks

So true.......

Yes, your right. Rotax started it's engine work in the 1920's, in Germany. The very first Rotax engine was installed in a Ski-Doo in 1962. Then, Rotax and Bombardier integrated in 1970. The first marine Rotax was installed in the Seadoo in 1988.

But there are some differences between the Rotax marine and snowmobile engines. For instance, the marine 4-TEC, 4 stroke engine was first installed in 2001. The Ski-Doo has the first 2-TEC engine, which was installed in 2002.

In 2005, Rotax celebrated it's 85th anniversary and in 2006, sold it's 6 millionth engine.

But for your question. I'd research this part reference crossover. Their is a big difference between the marine application and the snowmobile application. There is no logic behind such a big price difference except that there has to be a difference. All our parts that come to the distributers are from Bombardier (if they are OEM) and have a set price. All distributers add a certain percentage for overhead and profit. But to see you find one that cheap, will lead me to believe that there is something different, which is probably going to be the difference between water related and land related.

I'm not saying it won't work, it probably will............but for how long?

:)Thanks for your reply, the price difference in my opinion, is that ithey are not OEM. It is from Kimpex which is a very well known snowmobile aftermarket parts manufactuer. I also find it interesting when it is same year, same engine, same part # for the same parts. Is it not possible that bombadier used the same parts for that year on two different vehicles? I went looking for snowmobile stuff because I have rebuilt a few classic sleds and have websites for such parts. I have been looking very hard for classic PWC sites and have not found nearly as many. It seems that I am stuck paying top dollar from seadoo parts site. My whole idea is to get these things running as inexpensively as possible. I would prefer new parts as you never know what you are getting on ebay. If money was no object I would put them in the shop to be fixed. I have two almost 20 year old skis that don't run. Compression is good just no spark. I need to get them to run as cheaply as possible first to see if the jet pump is good and everything else. Before I decide if they are worth putting a few hundred into each on to get them to run dependably. I do appreciate any and all help and opinions.
Thanks

they could be the same... I work on alot of fords and i know all there vehicals use the same coils, you can take one off a mustage and use it on a focus. so chances are if it has the same part # then it should be the same but alway double check first.
