Covers vs tarp

I just picked up a newer pair of skis but don't have a place to park them out of the weather. I was going to buy an economical pair of covers for them but don't want the footwells filling up when it rains. Would putting a tarp over them work or does that trap moisture underneath and make everything moldy anyway?

It's hard to say.

On my boat... I have a Poppy cover. They are 100 waterproof. After a good rain... there is a lake in the cover. (but not in the boat) Fyi... my boat sits out all summer. (with it's cover on)

My skis have "OEM" covers... and they SUCK. They both leak, and they both are building mildew. SO... this summer, I've bought a large silver tarp. I like it better than the covers. It keeps the sun off my storage box... and there is no sign of water in the foot wells. Since it's not pulled tight... I don't think it's going to trap any moisture. BUT... after a day out... I leave the seats off, and let the skis dry a little before covering them.

Hope that helps.

PS... I think Poppy makes covers for all the skis you have listed. You may want to check them out. (but a tarp is cheap)

I have original oem covers too, they are starting to absorb water too. Normally in the winter I use the covers and a Tarp. Last winter I was in a hurry so just put the covers on and now there is alot of mildew on the inside of the covers. somebody gave me a tent and a bottle of canvas cleaner, I was going to try that on the covers to see if it removes the mildew and then spray them with some waterproofing.

Just a sidenote, first winter I coverd my boat with just the nylon cover, it leaks a little and the whole boat was coverd with mildew, (which cleaned up pretty easy, just a pain in the a$$) A guy at west marine told me when i cover for the winter to put a couple dock fenders or soemthing under the side of the cover to allow air flow thru the boat. I did that last 2 years, plus I now also tarp over the cover and i no longer get mildew in the boat.
