I hear alot of talk about people checking the fuel selector valve for issues. What exactly are people talking about and checking?

I know this is the knob that selects between ON, OFF and RESERVE but what and how do they check this?

Attached is a pic I found online. I know what this is but not sure what to check/clean/look for

One way to tell is if the ski is not running good then try running it in Reserve. If it runs better in reserve then the selector is probably gummed up. Take it off and clean it up real good with carb cleaner.

I pulled mine off the XP a couple weeks ago and it was crapped.

Funny thing is I thought the XP was running like crap because of a potential crack in the baffle.

Swapped out the switch, and it runs like a charm now.

After reading this, I wonder if the problem wasn't in the switch.

It was cheap, so if you think you have a problem, swap it.

Of course, mine looked like a wad of chalk compared to yours.:ack:

The 96 XP I just did...

there is a rubber plug in the center of the knob. Pop that out with a small flat-blade screwdriver.

Then undo the screw underneath it. Pop the knob off.

Then there is a large plastic nut, which is most likely broken, or will break when you try to remove it (at least mine did). Then it may need to be tapped out of the hole IN to the hull, since it may have corrosion making it stick. WD-40 may help it free up.

Then just undo all the fuel lines, mark them so you know where to hook them back up to the new one.
