Cheap PWC batteries on Amazon

Well, I went ahead and ordered one, I figured I would need a new one this year, the one in my 96GTI is four years old. The only problem is the new battery looks like it's got the dreaded floating nuts. I hate floating nuts. LOL

I just spoke to a customer of mine that was an engineer for a battery manufacturer and here's what he told me.

The AGM batteries that are shipping dry have a seal on them, as long as that seal remains intact they will have a very long shelf life, a couple of years or more. If that seal is broken it will allow moisture to enter, that will shorten the shelf life as the mat is looking to reach an equilibrium of moisture content, hence the fill bottles are filled to an exact amount. He told me that way back when, all batteries that were shipped to "garages" were dry charged(like these AGM's), meaning the garage got a shipment of automotive batteries and they sat on the shelf until a customer came in to purchase one(longer shelf life). At that point the mechanic would fill the battery and then trickle charge the battery for the customer, just like these AGM's require. He said do not fool with the foil seal on the top of the battery until your ready to use it.

Good to know, thanks racer. Knowing that, I'm considering setting my wife up an account with the free trial of Prime and getting another one.

Interesting. I just got an email as well, letting me know my backorder is being filled & should ship around the 26th. I ordered a battery for my street bike, as all my PWC batteries are in good shape. I wonder if they are putting all orders together at once?

Not sure. Mine too shipped from PA--hence the reason I get charged tax from Amazon. I have a UPS tracking# so mine is for sure shipping/shipped. You guys should get an email that it shipped, when it does actually ship. I ordered real early the day this was posted. Perhaps it's first come, first served. Still not bad for $38.79 after tax. I just looked at the item on Amazon and it's listed as currently unavailable, yet as of last night you could still order it. I wonder if there was an overwhelming interest.:D

Yep, I'll bet there was & it started on 4/12/12 @ 12:09pm. I wonder who started that....HHhhhmmmmmmm
Suke, any ideas? ;)

You didn't have to admit that.... BTW, Did you make your cart with PVC pipe? Can you post some pictures of it?
Yup made from 3" PVC pipe. I'm going to change over to wood though. It was fine for the XP since it's so light, but was a bit unstable for my big Yamaha. It wasn't cheap by any means, and could be done cheaper with wood. In any event even after buying all the supplies to change over to wood I still, total, haven't spent as much as ONE new metal stand would cost.

I filled the pipes with expanding foam for added strength and rigidity. Worked out quite well. Weak link was the bottom bracing.

What it is now.

No word yet from the one I ordered, I think I ordered mine a day or two later than most of you.

I'm enjoying not having tax on things I purchase from amazon while I can. Starting in 2014, from what I have gathered, Tennessee residents will have to pay taxes on everything purchase from amazon. There is a huge amazon distribution center a few minutes from my house here in Chattanooga, and our governor is pushing them to charge taxes. He is also pushing a bill to allow states the ability to charge taxes on all internet purchases. Total B.S. :cuss:

My ATX9BS shipped today & will be here tomorrow. It appears to have shipped out of Chicago. Interesting because when I search for it on amazon now, it comes up as currently unavailable with no ETA. Hhhmmmmmm. timing was everything I guess....

Well I haven't heard a peep, I just checked my account and it still says what it always did, to arrive on or before May 13.

Lou

Lou did you order the 16CLBBS like the others did? Mine wasn't for a PWC so my shipment probably isn't worth comparing.

I am wondering if maybe you shouldn't have made this statement earlier...... ;)

It all looks good, but what's the deal with ships in 2-5 weeks, I could live with 2 weeks, but not 5.

Lou

Yep, I ordered ATX16CLBBS. It's really not that big of a deal, I have two new batteries (last year), and one lead acid which is a little weak but it will do until the new one comes in, the weather hasn't exactly been cooperating anyway.

Lou

Got mine yesterday. I'm not complaining, well maybe just a little. It's a Delco (GM), old line American company, right. So I thought the battery would be made in at least north America, wrong. The battery is made in Vietnam.
