Chain saw question,,,

I have a McCulloch, Like a late 70's - 36 inch bar saw. All cast Iron engine, manual oiling bar. My Sister's Wimpy Husband wanted to borrow it. I told him to go pick it up. Want to use it? He did pick it up. No, I think I will rent one! You know you have done work with this one! After 4 or 5 hours you are done with this saw! Better have the mixed gas and bar oil close. Your going to need it! Two pickup loads are it's normal day.

Used to think I needed only 2 saws until these showed up, now there are more than a few:

Started catching heck for growing the collection too rapidly and had to give it a break, there's still a few others on the list I hope to locate (such as the KMS-4 Wankel Sachs Dolmar):

Did you scrap the saw? My saw needs a new pull recoil starter. Or you could take it's engine and new chain and bar and make a working saw. I just can't bring my self to drop $50 on a new recoil setup.

UM... I grew up in a chain saw shop. I'm not kidding, learned to crawl on the floor of a Jonsered dealership. I've been a dealer for nearly every brand through the years but quit 15 years ago to concentrate on tree service. My dad did it his whole life also and we have a large collection of old chainsaws.

I still work with the saws everyday. No one else on this earth has sharpened more chain!! That's a fact.

Now that I see this topic on here I had to say something. If you guys ever need advice or used Husky and Stihl parts hit me up.

I have a stihl that had a starting issue. The screen in the muffler that acts as a spark arrestor was gummed up. I removed that and it ran great.

Just an idea.

That's a great suggestion, it's actually quite common I think. I prefer to clean the stainless steel spark arrestor screen using heat like a propane torch b/c I want to keep the spark arrestor.

My father kinda grew up in a hardware store his parents ran but hardly knows squat about small engines. Amazes me some but he was shipped off to military school where he learned the fine art of how to be a schmuck.
