Carburetor Fuel Pump Pulse Testing??

Can anyone chime in on how to test the fuel pump pulse signal sent from the engine?? I have a 99 GSX LTD (947cc) that I have just rebuilt the carburetors, replaced the fuel lines, and trying to get back on the water. The last time I rode the ski, I had the carburetors rebuilt, but still had the old fuel lines. The boat was experiencing a lean condition at WOT. Therefore, I replaced the fuel lines to make sure there are no more restrictions from the fuel system. That now leads me to my main question... I understand how the fuel pump works. It uses a pulse signal from the engine crankcase to expand and contract the plastic diaphragm in the carburetor to generate flow. I have taken the small hose loose from the carburetor to test the pulse signal. When I turn over the engine, I get a pretty high velocity jet of air from the hose. Although, if I cap the hose with my finger and turn the engine over, it doesn't seem to build much pressure/vacuum at all!! I mean very little.. Anyway, is there a procdure to test this pulse signal??? One idea I had was to connect a temporary hose to the fuel return, ride the ski, and see if there was any excess fuel coming out of the hose (i.e. being returned to the tank). This, to me, would indicate that the fuel pump is supplying the carburetors with enough fuel + excess.. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!
 
If there isn't a blockage in the hose... and there isn't a huge hole in the piston... it's working. (really nothing to test there) NOW.... if there is a problem with the pump... it's going to be in the check valves internal. Just inspect them, and make sure they are OK, and sitting flat on the housing. IF... there is some corrosion under them... they won't seal.
 
Dr Honda, Thanks for your quick reply!! I did rebuild the carbs and within the kit were all the internals for the fuel pump (seals, gaskets, etc). I will try it again as is. I did a compression test on the engine and both cylinders were 140 psi. I have a Clymer shop manual, but I couldn't find the compression spec. Does that sound correct??? Thanks again!
 
Thanks for your thoughts. I will give it a shot tonight. I really want it back to normal. What kind of RPM's should I expect with the 951 motor in a GSX Limited?? I see other people on here claiming 7000 RPM, but I don't think I have ever got over 6700 on a good day?? Can anyone help with that question?? Thanks!
