Was a bit disappointed to find the carbon seal looking like this after just 41hours.
I reckon the guy who put the engine in was in a hurry to go home for the day.
Anyway new seal, did the wear ring while had it apart and engine aligned how it should be.

Never enough time to do it right the first time. But always time to do it twice,,,

Alignment is crucial with Seadoos. Glad you are up and running.

That's not necessarily from engine misalignment, it also can be from carbon seal and boot misalignment. If either of the carbon seal clamps (especially the rear one) are tightened with the boot/seal not perfectly in line, it will do that and yes I have seen it several times from the factory in as few as a couple hours you'll get a spot of carbon seal dust in your hull or in the boot. I've also seen the collar be slightly cocked so that its sealing surface isn't perfectly perpendicular to the drive shaft but this usually causes cavitation.

It is the carbon seal. It is basically a floating disk that is pushed up against the collar. The pressure alone is what keep water out of the hull.

In this picture, the collar is in purple. The carbon seal is to the left.

has the drive shafts been changed again between the years of 09 and 12? I understand this pic is on a 2012 gti 130, I've got a 09 155 with the shaft looking like this ( see pic) I'm replacing the carbon seal and someone has just mentioned to replace my current shaft to a updated one? question is I have a nut the shaft of my 09 where I don't see one here. after asking a few people they reckon they haven't heard of a updated drive shaft.
