Carb Rebuild Kit

I recently changed the fuel lines and cleaned the carb filters on my 1999 Seadoo GTX Limited. First tried to fire it up just cranking on it, I tried cranking with the fuel selector in the On and Reserver position, both were unsuccessful. Used some starting fluid and it started running. after all the starting fluid had burned up it would not run on its own.

My father suggested taking the carb back off and getting a rebuild kit for it. I agree, now that I know how to get the carb off and have the correct tools to do it.

My question is where do I buy a carb rebuild kit? I couldn't find anything like it in the Seadoo parts manual, I probably didn't know where to look. But Does anyone have any idea where I can purchase one of these to do the rebuild my self?

but, you dont need a rebuilt kit. Did you take them off, and break them down, cleaned the internal filter, and replaced the grey fuel lines and cleaned/replaced the fuel selector switch?

I did do break it down and clean the internal fuel filters. I also replaced all of the fuel lines from the grey.

Did this and it still does not want to run.

Any suggestions on what to try next? I Was thinking I should rebuild the carb since it has not run in 3 years. the fuel may have clogged up some stuff inside the carb.

I am going to clean the carb for my 1996 SP in the next week. When you say break them down, you mean to take everything apart ?

What do you suggest using to clean the pre-filter to the carb and the filters in the carb. I really don't know how many filters, I based on just reading other threads.

I have work on cars but this is my first ski.

I was in a similar situation in letting my ski sit for almost three years. I replaced fuel lines and syphoned old gas out and took it to a mechanic since I wanted to get the carbs right. He broke them down and cleaned internal filters with carb cleaner and replaced the diaphagms stating all the other carb components were in good shape (only had 80 hours on the engine). When i took it out last week it was running great and hitting 60+ mph. If you happen to be in the Dallas area, i can recommend a great mechanic that got me up and running! Good luck!

I recommend you download a manual from this site. They seem to be really good step by step manuals. As far as what engine you have, if it is stock the manual will tell you what it is and there should be a sticker on the aft most part of the lower unit that tells you what engine it is.

I do live in the DFW area. I spoke with a mechanic before I decided to try doing it by myself. I work for a flight school and work closely with a bunch of aviation mechanics. So I felt comfortable taking the carb off and letting them look at it.

We are going to order a rebuilt carb from a company in Florida. The cost of a rebuilt one compared to a rebuild kit is not much more, and since I already know how to get it on and off it isn't going to be that hard.

I just replaced my gray lines as well as all filters and had a tough time getting the gas through to start it. I took premixed gas and squirted in the carbs and ran it that way a couple of times until it got the gas through. The Xp runs great now!

pumper....take the fuel line from the carb to the filter, unplug from filter, and go strate to "res" fitting on tank. This will bypass the filter and selecotr switch. Leave the switch to "off" position.

If anything, all you'll need, since sitting for a few years, is the diaphram.

Personally I would replace the filters since you have done the work to get to them.

if your filters are still in good shape soak them in gas and blow them out with compressed air. if sediment is too much to get out from this buy some new ones

For the life of me, I cannot locate the filters for my model (where is the carb filters).

some kits come with the filters, some don't. I'm assuming you have dual carbs, when you take them off and and seperate them (remove the choke and throttle cables and your lines) under the front plate of each is where the filters are. once you get them out then you will know if you need a kit with filters or not.

I'm only going on what i've learned from my xp, so i am guessing its relatively the same setup

I just finished doing the exact same thing to my 96 XP. Replaced grey lines and carb rebuild. The ski wouldn't start at all. We added a little bit of pre-mix to the cylinders and she fired right up. So we knew it wasn't getting fuel.

Upon pullling the carbs apart it was VERY aparant why... both needles were VERY stuck. It took everything I had to get those needles out. Green gunk from the old lines seems to be the culprit. Cleaned carbs and reinstalled. Thing started right up after the fuel got through the new lines. Fuel selector looked great.

I think the SP model is a single carb. Instructions probably the same as yours.
