Thanks to your advice. I pulled the carbs off my 1996 XP to resolve a fuel delivery issue. The internal filters were a mess. I replaced them with new filters (from carb rebuild kits) but opted to just reassemble with the new filters instead of doing a total carb rebuild. Yes, laziness and summer fun were factors in my decision. I also replaced two of the original grey hose with regular fuel hose. My questions are these:
1) How do I clean the original carb filters? I bought carb cleaner but I am afraid it will dissolve the filters. Carb cleaner directions recommends NO plastic or rubber parts.
2) Since I didn't tear them all the way down and rebuild them I am afraid to soak them in the carb cleaner as there are delicate parts in the carbs. (plastic, rubber, clear film....etc.) The carbs needs to be soaked so I am thinking just pure gasoline is better than nothing. Is there an alternative that will not damage the delicate internal pieces parts?
3) Am I making a mistake by not doing a total rebuild? The ski ran fine other than bogging when you tried to go faster that 25 mph. The condition of the internal carb filter convinced me that was the problem with that. There could be latent issues I am unaware of though.
Thanks in advance for your vast wealth of knowledge out there.
