Hey guys just bought a 97 GTX and it needs a starter, solenoid, and a carb rebuild i think. Ski was sitting for 7 months, its turns over manually. The carb was disassembled. How do I know which carb kit to buy? Also I need th spark plug wires. Do they sell these pre-assembled? couldn't find them anywhere. Should I just make them? If so what gauge wire do I use.
I really would love to do this myself, but if anyone knows a good, less expensive mechanic please let me know as I am so busy.

The owner took it to the same mechanic I use "Jetski Doctor" and he wants $450, so I am figuring that with his fees of $75/hr he is probably charging for 2 1/2 hrs in labor and rest in parts.

How many hours would you say it would take a novice to rebuild this (Novice in the sense of I knowledgeable when it comes to fixing stuff) Plus I have the Shop manual and you guys of course:hurray:

Thanks in advance

well for the carb rebuild, it depends on what you need. I would try to clean it and see what you need to replace. Sometimes I never need anything. Just be careful not to tear the diaphragms. Read the manual you have a couple times so you know what to do.

Seeing that it was sitting for so long I wanted to replace the gaskets, diaphragms, o rings etc. I bought a kit off of ebay for $76 which includes every thing for both carbs. So I will see when it comes.

What guage wire do I use to make the spark plug wire

I checked the seadoo parts site and it doesn't say what size will work. I would bring a wire or the coil with you and get the wire the correct length and size as needed at Auto Zone...Keep us posted.
