mechanic bolted carbs onto fuel / oil lines - dead 98gsx ltd

alright so I had 2 98 GSX die on me this year after fuel line and carb rebuild. I just got the time today to take a look into it myself. Noticed the bolts for the whole carb kit had been bolted right down onto the oil/.gas lines, puncturing the line and.. well thats likely what caused the issues. What would you do in this situation? The mechanic told me it died because of old age and low compression, now I see what really happened here... PXL_20240926_201546836.jpg

Those are your accelerator pump fuel lines, not oil lines.
Replace the lines, it is just 1/8" fuel line.
wish I could just replace the lines.. they ripped apart the whole engine looking for the problem they created to begin with. Basically need to rebuild the whole thing now.

So what is your question?
If you can't put it back together yourself your only choice that makes financial sense is to part it out or sell it as is.

Oh.. she will go back together one way or another. I am not going to let a 98 GSX LTD be parted out. My question really was if this was a common issue that someone could overlook the fact they are tightening the mount bolts for carbs back onto these lines or was it done on purpose?

I think it was someone not paying attention.
A normal mechanic would have been able to feel the bolt compressing the hose and not tightening down correctly..

are these lines normally tucked in behind the bolt, or in front of it? In my case I found them tucked behind where I then noticed the gouges out of them caused by being snagged between the bolt and the housing and then likely vibration/ heat from there further caused it to expand. Explains why I only got 20 mins on it after carb rebuild, and why there was a shit ton of oil and gas in the bottom of the hull.

They do sit behind the bolts and some have a stainless tab to keep them in place.
In 30 years I have never seen them worn through like that, they were pinched under the bolts when tightened down. They did not wear through.

I would confront them with it, they will either do something bc about it or they won’t in which case hopefully you get some satisfaction from letting them know they are dumb asses
