hey everyone, I am still kinda new on a sea doo. i bought a 96 sea doo hx and it runs perfect.
My question is can a sea doo hx pull a inner tube? Also does anyone know where I can get a fuel and speed gauge kit for my hx sea doo as well. Thank you if anyone can help

An HX is possibly the worst towing PWC Seadoo has ever made. But in fairness, the HX was deisgned to be a sport boat. Most people in their right minds would not pull a trailer behind their racing motorcycle - same concept with an HX.

There are two specific occassions I can recall towing with my HX.

- towing an inner tube with a 300lbs passenger. As I weigh 165 lbs and the HX 390 lbs, this was not a fair match. The deep V hull just cannot plane fast enough to tow efficiently. Also, the eyelets for tying the rope are below the waterline when in motion. This means you will probably drive the tube's front end underwater and slow down the rig as well as make for an unhappy rider.

- towing a 15ft Bayliner open bow. Rescue operation. Not impossible, just took FOREVER. But you do what you gotta do.

I appreciate you answering my question about towing. What if I hooked a tow rope to the back of the hx under the seat? i would be pulling my nephews and they are roughly 130lbs saoking wet if that?

My 96 XP is 110 hp, your HX is 85 or so, if I am not mistaken.

My 200lb father pulled my fat 220lb butt up on waterskis behind mine, fairly easily, I should add. I popped up pretty quick, and would have been quicker if dad had nailed it a bit harder.

I don't see how yours should have a problem pulling a tube and passenger of moderate proportions.

130lbs is not a lot of weight. But the forces involved with pulling 130lbs against water under load are enormous.

You could tie off under the seat, but I'd be worried about destroying the rubber boot to the shock absorber. And that little tiny strap under the very tip of the seat is worthless (I didn't even know it was there until I read your question and went to look on mine).

It is tough to use those eyelets by the nozzle - I'm just saying it won't be pretty. At least they are stronger than anything you could mount under the seat.

Most states have a law requiring a driver AND spotter on the PWC when towing anyone. Further, the PWC should have the capacity to carry the driver, spotter AND the tow rider. Seeing as how the HX doesn't meet any of these requirements, you could be violating your local waterways regulations.

Here in Texas, you could get away with two people, if you have a mirror.

But in California, no way. Must have seating for 3, and 2 on the doo while the 3rd is in the water being towed.

thank you everyone for replying, yeh I wasnt sure what the laws were so im glad you guys cleared it up for me. looks like I gotta go buy another ski

You don't have to buy another ski...

Just find a place that is secluded and the cops don't show up often...:D

Was just about to ask this same question about my XP. No way I'm getting a spotter on this thing with me lol. Oh well
