hey i'm going to buy an xp in the very soon future and i'm wondering if there are any common problems to look for?? i will most likely be buying off of craigslist. what should i look for besides what was present in the used sea doo buying guide. Any model specifics?????:)

...........no specifics.

You list no specifics. Like, what year it is.

Doesn't matter. The XP is a good series PWC to buy. NO complaints:cheers:

XP problems are similar to any other 2-stroke Sea doo.

1) wear ring
2) rebuild carbs
3) clean RAVES
4) new spark plugs
5) verify that all seals and boots are watertight
6) Only one person, or two skinny people with good balance
7) jump 8' into the air over the next boat wake you see!!!

Yes, I bought a Challenger recently, but only because the wife and I are not as skinny as we were the first time we rode a 96 XP (back in 1996) and we needed a "boat" to haul our fat butts. The extra weight makes us flip over pretty easily, but one person at a time, it is still just as much of a blast as it was back then.

:agree: One person, super fast and really fun. Two people, not so fun, especially if you've never ridin one. I love mine though. I don't want anybody riding with me anyway, unless, well, there's always exceptions. :)

I bought my first one earlier this summer and can't stress enough that there are two different watercraft. The one person sport fun machine you bought, and the two person ejection seat it becomes when you put someone on it.

If you want something that is more flexible for wife, kids, mom and grandpa then consider the larger 3 seaters such as the GTI/GTS/GTX boats.

XP is a bit more selfish - great for one, rough for two. But what a great boat! GSX is a bit easier with two and has the same great 800 engine.

HX beats XP - great for one, but absolutely hostile if not impossible for two. :P

I already have a three seater for the slow riders in the family. i just want some thing fun and fats but dont relly want to pay for a big heavy new fourstroke. and i like the quickness of the two strokes!! so if there is another model you would recommend please let me know. fourstroke or two stroke. I was looking 2000 or older. year wise. and i heard they are very hard to reboard from the water is this true?

They are difficult to reboard until you get it figured out. I can now do it in under 10 seconds, but when I first fell off, it took me closer to 5 minutes to figure it out.

The Xp is a wonderful fast, fun machine, for ONE rider, two and you can't turn
or cut up, and you will have a heck of a time if you fall off trying to reboard with two.

The first thing to do is change the gray fuel lines that sea doo goofed up, and
put some good grade fuel lines on. If you read the forum you will know that
the gray lines gum up the filters and carbs.

Ha Ha! It took me 2 days to get back on mine after I fell off the first time. ( I sank it, and had to get it towed back in). I can know master it from the side.:hurray: Although its a lot harder than it looks.

from the side?

How do you do that?

I can enter from the rear, pulling my knees up simultaneously, then dragging myself along my stomach until I am fully mounted. Takes about 15 seconds.

I have also, in a pinch, gotten on by holding the handlebars from the side, starting the engine and taking off while dragging beside the ski, then pulling myself up onto the moving ski. Like you see them do with horses in old Western flicks...

I usually do that when there is a lot of waves and the ski will not sit still while I try to mount from the back.

Awesome for 1, dont even think about 2...I have a 97 XP and I LOVE it, but agian tried to get two people on it several times and flipped every time

On the weekend of the 4th of July I went for a long ride on our 94 XP with the wife out on Texhoma anyway we got turned around and it took us about an hour to get back to the beach. While we were riding (lost) we stopped for directions and the conversation went something like this..."Honey stop leaning. I'm not leaning , your leaning, I'm not leaning your...splash" then we put on a 15 minute vaudeville act for the boat we stopped to ask directions while we re-boarded the Doo.

Now she doesn't want anything to do with the Doo. I love riding it alone and don't mind pulling a tube. I hate giving rides though.

How do you legally pull a tube? In IA we have to have a driver and a spotter to watch the tube/skiier.

I just dangle off the left side of the ski, and turn the bars to the right. Give it full throttle and the seat just slides right under you. Once you get a feel for it you will realize it is SUPER easy.

That's awesome! I have a friend with an XP. I'll see if I can convince him to let me ride it and I'll try that boarding maneuver.

i never had a problem reboarding mine., its the whole 2 people deal that make it suck.. but over all faaaaaantastic machine.. wish it had more guts like the 951 but the 787 does its job real well... i need to look more into this whole fuel line concern.. i have never had a problem with the lines being clogged but now its got me wondering.. hmmmmm

That is kinda how I do it, boarding while hanging off the side. I have only done it 3 or 4 times, and it is much more show-offy than climbing up the back...

I'm 5'10" and 250lbs. (fat). I rode my buddies XP today. I don't think I'll ever try that again. I did okay in a straight line, but tight turns caused me to have to abandon ship in order not to roll it over.

Every time I ride another model PWC it makes me fall in love with my RXP even more.

I am 6' even, and about 210lbs, and I LOVE the XP. I have a background of riding "crotch-rockets", harleys, drag cars, and a Hemi Dodge Ram :ack: and I love the maneuverability of the XP.

I have recently bought a Challenger boat and thought briefly about selling the XP, but it is just a completely different beast. I cannot bear to sell the "sport bike" of the water. I have to have the XP on a 3-week to monthly basis to keep my speed-freak under control.

The control and maneuverability of the XP is beyond comprehension...Everyone should have one for at least a short time to understand how cool a fast and maneuverable bike/jetski can be.

Not to mention...I cannot think of anything else in the world that will launch me 8 feet above a small wave, to land and take off and catch another wave within seconds:reddevil:

I've had my 03 xp di for about a year now. I am finally getting to where I can do a lot of crazy stuff but I have yet to be able to get it more than a foot or 2 out of the water jumping boat wakes. I', 6 feet, weigh 235 lbs. What technique do I need to learn to get the bigger air jumpin wakes? TY!

I weigh the same and I have now mastered that thing. At first it was a night mare. It takes a little getting used to.
