I found these wires that look burnt today. I've got a feeling that it's related to my battery issues but I'm not sure. Does anyone know what the wires are for and if it could affect anything? It's an '05 Sportster with the 215 4Tec.

That's the output on the stator. You probably had a bad regulator... but since that plug is cooked... I'm going to say, your stator is coocked now also.

I just recently found the same problem on my boat. I undid the plug & found water in it. My charging system was still working fine but the burnt wire were getting hot when the motor was running.

I "bench tested everything & found poor conductivity in the wires, but everything else bench tested - OK. I merely took apart the connector, took each pin off, cut back the wire a few inches & re-installed the pins and put the connector back together. Once I cut off the connector the the burnt wire - I could tell the wire was corroded and causing resistance instead of a smooth delivery of current.

Now that everything is back together - took boat out for a test run & charging system is working good & wires are no longer heating up when engine is running.

That's great to know. I got a much bigger battery and put a multimeter on it when the engine was running and it read 14. something volts and I haven't had a dead battery since, so I'm assuming that my charging hasn't been affected either. I might strip the wires back too. Thanks for the info.
