Broken bolts on intake grate

Omg I have never seen one of those before. That is exactly what I need. Thanks! Btw the red locktite didn't hold. I think the bolt was still too dirty greasy.

Like has already been said, a little heat will help.

As you've got some thread to play with, try a stud extractor. Thermostat bolts on my outboard were like this. Same as nearly every bolt on the transom anode of most outboard brackets. Always a pita!

WOOOTTTT!!!!!! I took your advice and got a stud extractor. I paid for the fast shipping and they didn't send it until now. anyway, I have been spraying the bolts with pb blaster every couple of days. the extractor came on Tuesday, It rained until today (welcome to Halifax!) . I put a small butane torch on the bolts until they smoked. the extractor barely fit on. the space between the side was too tight so I couldn't get the thing all the way on. it kept popping off.

anyway then it shifted a little. I didn't know if the extractor was slipping but I did another little turn and it moved a little more before it popped off again. after a few more tried it came right out!!!! I have both out now. now I just have to figure out how to best clean out the threads. the bolts look like they have oily sand in there

Thanks you all for your help!!!

Great news! Glad you got them out.

To clean up the threads, blow them out first with brake cleaner, then spray in a little WD40 and run a tap through the threads. Spray in a little WD40 when done.

Not sure if the fresh bolts need to be threadlocked or not, check the manual. If they don't, I'd pack with grease before putting in new stainless bolts and a lock washer. If I ever replace bolts on any of my marine stuff, I always use A4 stainless where suitable. A4 has a little bit more tensile strength and better corrosion resistance the commonplace A2.

I'm always surprised at how much A2 stainless hardware I find on OEM marine stuff. Saving pennies at the factory to create headaches for owners in maintenance.

Not sure if you're in the U.K. or US, but if in the U.K. Try http://www.seascrew.com

Ok, I put the grate back on. the springs are really tight. I think I put it back together correctly but the tines are really stiff. I can only really push it open maybe 2 inches. maybe 3 tops. is this correct? I seem to remember it being easier to push open. is it possible I don't have this back on right?
