hi guys well im still useing the oil that was in the tank from the P.O. and im almost out so i went to my local sea doo dealer and got some XPS 2-stroke synthetic oil (yellow bottle) and when I went to put it in tank I noticed the oil was red looks like transmission fluid is that normal!?!?! the oil that was in it from the PO is a bluish black.

Thanks

ok I figured out that sea doo put a dye in their oil...now my P.O I have lost contact with like usual.. and could he have used the wrong oil it is a bluish black it looks to me I have no idea if the oil in it was ok or not?

Yep, last year BRP changed suppliers from Castrol to Red Line, the old XPS2 was a golden color the new is red, the two oils are compatible, no problems mixing them. I have no idea what you were using, I have a feeling it's TC-W3 and I would recommend draining the tank, changing the oil filter adding the new oil and bleeding the system.

Lou

If the previous was xps2 you can mix, if not you shouldn't. They didn't dye it, the changed manufacturers, from castrol to redline

ok thanks Lou and racer, im afriad the P.O. might have been useing TC-W3 as it is like a bluish black/greenish. I hope it hasnt caused much damage as the comp numbers are at low 140s when I checked last week (I dont remmber exact). so should I just take the grommet out of bottom of tank and drain it that way or use a syphon? and after ive changed the oil filter and oil I should hold the pump lever wide open to bleed it right? or should I use the bleed screw on the pump?

Thanks I appreciate the help.

Low 140s is still fine. Have you already dumped the whole jug in your oil tank? If it was me, go to harbor frieght and get a fluid transfer pump. Stick one end in the tank and drain it out. Way less messy and no oil in the hull. It up to you if it's worth the risk of possibly melting your engine due to an oil clog

I know what your going through. I just threw away 6 quarts of P.O mystery oil + replaced all lines and oil filter just in case.

You can pull the pump off and drain it and then prime it with new oil with a drill as well.

ok sounds good I will get to that right away should I order a OEM oil filter from my local sea doo dealer, I dont want to wait so long though anything that I could get from canadien tire or Walmart or some other oil filter? anybody know of any other filter that can used just fine as OEM filter (part number or somethin)? I really didnt want to tear the pump off as I just spent half hour trying to adjust that pain in the butt oil pump so the alighment marks would line up....the pump was about 3mm off alighment marks and the jam nut is just such a pain to get to id rather not do it again lol. I think ill just spray a little fogging oil in the flame arestor and hold pump lever wide open until it primes it self I hope thats ok?

Thanks

also I have a vacuum pump Ill use to drain the majority of the oil just as Creynolds stated its a great thing to have no mess

I dont think ill throw away the oil I got a few old outboard motors ill use it in hopefully. its an 1956 evinrude 3hp....impossible to blow up lol (famous last words)

Sounds like a plan, I would highly recommend getting the OEM filter, your local dealer should have it. Should be 8-10 dollars. It's going to be somewhat of a mess, it's impossible to capture all the oil, just clean it up with some SuperClean.

I agree with Lou.
There is NO aftermarket reliable oil filter for Seadoo 2 strokes. I would also add an in-line fuel filter. A Fram G-2 works great....get the see through type (well kinda yellow but almost clear :) )

At a dealer in Michigan & Florida the cost was about $13 for the oil filter.

I have previously drained & scrapped all the oil from each & every 2-stroke ski I bought so far. PO's never really seemed to know what they were running in them or why. However, I am currently working on a pair of one owner GTX's that both have full tanks & PO has been buying from local BRP dealer that is right down his street. When I picked them up I asked what he was running, he said "whatever they give me down the street & its $45 per gallon" I drained the first tank & it's reddish brown, & smells like total crap, so I am 99% sure its XPS2, It will pain me too throw away 2.5 gallons of what appears to be legit oil. First time I have ever been on the fence with this topic.

There is a local chain store in my area that sells some marine stuff. they stock a quicksilver, inline fuel filter that appears to be the same as the BRP unit. I used a couple of them on my early 90's stuff a while back, but seeing they are the same price, I just order the oem units when I am ordering other parts.

Hmmm, I'm not sure I would trust an oil filter just because it looks the same. I've cut open an oil filter and there's like a mesh bag that the oil flows through, I'm not sure what's inside a fuel filter.

never cut one open, however I could see in the end of it with my borscope & they both had an inverted bag like filter with a plastic reinforcement keeping its shape, & flow direction. I agree though. I am not telling anybody to run out & use the quicksilver filters. I don't want that responsibility. It just worked in a pinch & appeared to be the same thing at the time. even the same length, size, etc.

next time I am at the store, I'll pick one up & cut it open for grins.

hi guys,

I got all the oil drained out of the tank now and I have to wait till monday when my local dealer is open to get a new filter, the synthetic XPS oil mixing with the tiny bit of P.O. oil thats left in oil injection lines going to the engine won't hurt anything I assume.

I plan on cleaning the RAVE valves too since they are probly carboned up from useing wrong oil.

Thanks everyone :)

I was talking about the oil filter (OEM) not a fuel filter can be a Fram or whatever good brand that matches up.

I wasn't implying you meant the one in the link. Your post just reminding me of that other filter I found, thats all. Sorry for not explaining myself a little better.

glad I read this thread I just got 2 07s with a half tank each of oil. I need to see what in them . I don't think its red though

BTW, going back to the OP. Does anyone know when the "new" XPS2 oil first showed up?

I'm not sure exactly, I order my oil from Mosite's in Pittsburgh, and I first saw the red stuff the beginning of last season, probably May 2013.

Its definitely medium red with a hint of brown. Smells as bad as the original light yellowish brown stuff too.

Last fall fall my wife picked up a couple gallons of oil from a brp dealer that is close to her work. This was in preparation for her MXZ snowmobile for winter fun. When I saw it, I thought they goofed as it was in unlabeled jugs. (bulk from a drum as it turned out). I had just run out from SHS purchase that a bunch of us got with free shipping. Remember that deal? I wish I would have bought more at that time. I think it was like $38 per gallon with free shipping....

Check their website, if it's powered by PSN (would sayd that at the bottom of the main page) they all list XPS-II for $42.99 a gallon. I Googled GB, WI seadoo dealers and it seems most don't use the PSN website. I'm getting ready to drop that on my local dealer as they have the XPS-II listed for $52.99 in store. They're not gonna be happy when I buy 3 gallons on line and drop in to pick it up.
