Hello there. Newer forum guy here. Tried searching and did not find anyone having similar symptoms. Apologoze in advance if this has been covered.
2007 C180. Boat worked good in January could reach 35+ MPH. Parked for winter, put in water last weekend. As I was pulling away from boat dock in about a foot of water at FWD Idle, hear the inlet pick up some debris form bottom. Like pebble/oyster shells. Once in deeper water got on it and engine rev'd right up but no thrust. Best speed without mismatching motor revs to speed was about 4 MPH. It felt exactly like when I swallowed my tow rope last summer. Just crawled around and tried to clear it out for a while then took boat out of water and inspected. Found a single flat Oyster shell fragment about 1 inch diameter in tunner after impeller. Nothing else in there. Took a pic and there is about an inch of super shiny metal on the shaft in front of the impeller. Wear ring also looks a little like the impeller may have slid back and is getting newly broken in. Any ideas? I'll try to attach a pick.

Only a few things that. An do this. Carbon seal, worn wear ring, bent impeller, drive shaft moved and is slipping.

The fact we can see nice shiny metal, I'm thinking your shaft slid out of the PTO splines.

This happens when the rubber ends fail, engine mounts broke or are loose, pump has moved.

Did you try it in the water again after you pulled the boat? If not, you should. It could have been something wrapped in the shaft and it fell out when you pulled the boat. It happens all the time.

Coastiejoe. Thanks for your quick reply. I was planning on trying a quick run in a nearby river tonight to see if it was just stuff in there that is no longer in there since I pulled it out, as the Oyster shell that was sitting in there would hint at. That would be awesome. But it would still leave me scratching my head about the shiny inch of shaft in front of the impeller. I'll post back what happens tonight.

Could have been a weed wrapped around the shaft. Take it for a ride and go from there.

agree with coastiejoe, doesnt look good.
maybe wear ring but the concern would be if the shaft had moved, search the forum for the rubber shaft bumper. rope around shaft could have done something like that.

Wow! Praise the Lord! I took it out first thing this morning and it is good as new!!! I had read all the stories about this kind of thing bu t really didn't think I would be that blessed. She flies like she always have. And just in time for the weekend! Thanks guys! I guess I'll never know what was in there.

It is amazing how little of an item in the impeller area will all but stop a boat/ski. You can feel the vibrations normally.
