I removed the carb bank from our 947 engine for rebuilding. Before I go tearing it apart, I thought to jot down some of the original carb settings.
Now the Carburetor Reference Chart indicates that the 2001 -947 engines should have an initial setting of 1.5X for low speed adjuster; and 0 turns for the high.
Ours for the high setting is one full turn open; and low is relatively the same.

Is this high setting wrong?
What should I expect if I go with the carb setting suggested by the Reference Table?
What would I expect if I leave it at the setting I found ours set to?

It all depends on what jets are in the carb. If someone changed the jets, and needed to open the needle to compensate... then that COULD be right.

I've played with enough seadoo/Rotax engines over the years, to tell you that the engine will run spot-on with the factory specs. SO... I'm assuming you have the manual. Just rip them apart... do a proper cleaning... check the jets, pop-off, and N/S... and then set them "To the book."

I'm wondering if something is modified or altered. If you select the SeaDoo Parts link above and scroll down to boat parts for a 2001 Sportster , there is a link for engine air intake pictorial.
I don't have any of that installed, but what I do have is two mesh screen barrels covered with nylon microscreening, with the words "Fly Racing" .
Could these "alter the manifold vacuum/pressure" and then require the high speed jet setting to 1 turn open?
It's working good now, from as far as I can tell, but I don't have another machine around to compare with. And if I go with suggested rebuild settings, will issues begin if I install these screened intake cones?
