Just like the title says. So the other day I was grabbing the Speedster from my parents place cause we're heading out with it. So my parents drug the boat home from the shore a little over 100 miles and I went to pick it up a few weeks later and got roughly 1.5 miles from their place and got caught at the red light went to take off and for some reason I always look at both tires before leaving an intersection--force of habit when I'm trailering. Caught the passenger side trailer tire flat, boogie through the intersection and pull over with my daughter. I get out laughing, it was very amusing to me. Probably because that was an original tire from 99. LOL, got my monies worth out of it. The kicker is I just took the 3/4" socket and breaker bar out of my Yukon the day before, again I laughed. Called pops to the rescue, I already had the jack ready and the spare off the trailer. Got bit by some ants while waiting, and laughed again. Mind you my daughter just rolled with it like this kind of stuff happens everyday, LOL. So I started pricing tires and really wanted the Goodyear Marathons again until I found out they were made in China and guys have been having tread separation issues. The the difference between tire alone and mounting locally vs. buying tires and rims shipped was like $60. So I broke down one of my tires off the rim and was going to bead blast and powder coat my wheels, then realized it's $30 a rim and I'm going to put 6 hours into them--nah. So I picked up some sweet new rims and tires. Never heard of the tires before but a some of the RV guys really like them. They're Westlake Super ST tires--yes also made in China, guy said he sells a ton of them and has had very good results with no more problems than Marathons. So it's worth a shot, and I'm carrying 2 spares just in case. I think Cooper is the only USA made trailer tire anymore but I couldn't locate any, and Maxxis trailer tires are supposed to be the bomb but I don't have any dealers near me. I'm also opting for no center caps this time, I think that was the root of all the corrosion on the old wheels so no caps for me.
I got them from here http://www.trailertiresandwheels.com/ This is the second set of tires and wheels I've bought from these guys. I got my galvanized wheels and fatty tires for my 2 place trailer there too. I order them on a Monday and have them on my porch on Wednesday for $60 more than what tires and mounting alone will cost me locally! I have seen these same rims on brand new seadoo icatch trailers. Verdict will be out on the tires, but so far they seem nice and have trailered good for the little jaunt I took them on. They're getting ready for an 800 mile road trip!
Old rims
Shortly after I got the first set of aluminum wheels
Bead blasted , painted, repacked and sealed the hubs
The new candy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Machined finish and Gunmetal Gray
